Noob here. Currently on M1, planning to recontract because the 3Gbps plan is not only cheaper, but faster also than my existing plan (cheaper better faster lol)

What happens when the 24 months end? Will it default to the UP then I chiong to recontract again? Or will it remain at the promo price

Price will be higher.
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/m1-fibre-broadband-discussion-part-2.5658375/page-802

Those plans since the "reduced" prices started, I don't think there is any that the price stays the same after contract ends. Only the legacy plans may still have this mechanism.

Among the big three, it seems to me only Starhub is reported to maintain the same S$29.55 (new user offer, initially without free router for the ONT option, later with free HB710) or S$30.37 (recontract offer) per month for the previous 5Gbps promotion, after contract expiration.

Starhub has since removed the 5Gbps offer, now only got S$29.55 per month 3Gbps offer (with free HB410 dual band 2.5Gbps capable dual band WiFi 7 router).

Noob here. On Singtel since forever on 500mbps. Been thinking to jump ship as it was just either bad signal or router was too old.

If change provider, do I have to buy my own router or? And of course, my folks have the landlines tied to Singtel which they cannot let go of (oh well)

From what you shared, sounds like your router is in need of an upgrade.
Also, get out of Singtel, tons of options now, there's plans that bundles routers too.
Go shopping and do your research, then come back if you need further clarifications.
I believe all ISP supports landlines, so zoom down on your needs and then filter from there.

Read the first page of this thread and comes to your own decision.

If you are okay to leave Singtel, as of now, M1 6Gbps new user offer at S$35.90 per month with free Archer BE805 may be a good one. Digital voice is free for M1.

If your line is a Singtel Digital Voice Line, then it is possible to migrate to M1 (free) or Starhub (not free, S$2.14 per month). It is a bit troublesome though as you need to debundle the digital voice from the Fibre Internet. M1/Singtel will be able to advice.

If your line is an analog line, then you can keep using it even after switching to M1 or Singtel.

If you go with Singtel, then the new HB611-SGST or HB810 (more expensive) is better than the older Singtel wireless routers.

Is HB710 better than BE11000? i use chatgpt like both got pros and cons

HB710 is way better than HB611-SGST other than lack of 2.5 LAN ports.

Wireless spec: triband BE18000 vs triband BE11000.
10G ports: two 10G ports versue nothing
2.5G ports: zero versus two
1G ports: zero versus two

IMHO, often when people use ChatGPT or other AI tools, it is "garbage in, garbage out" since the prompt is not good.

land line can be converted to digital line and bundled with the fibre broadband as long as both are under the same account holder. If the land line account is under one of your parent and the broadband is your account, then you will either need to transfer the land line to you or your parent sign up for the new broadband under his/her account and then convert the land line to digital line.

this was what i did some years back to transfer an analogue land line over to me so i could then sign up for singtel fibre broadband and retain the same number under digital voice.

Is there a reason why simba is hardly discussed? Thought the 10Gbps at 29.9 was quite a deal even if have to purchase separate router dlink BE7200 router at 180.

Read the first page to see why I consider SIMBA not worth signing-up at all. Just my personal opinion though.

Basically if you can get M1 6Gbps plan at S$34.90/S$35.90 per month with free Archer BE805 (recontract offer can be at S$32.90 per month), why consider SIMBA at all?

Average user --> lack of support, may also affected by CGNAT.
Power user --> CGNAT without Static IPv4 add-on.

From Post #4 of Page 1.
8. More about SIMBA as an ISP.

Main issues now for SIMBA, at least from the reports, are the following
1) Lack of support --> this can be a critical issue especially for average users who are not tech savvy
2) No digital voice -- only affected some users. May not be an issue for many users.
3) CGNAT without Static IPv4 add-on. SIMBA 10Gbps has native IPv6 which may help but it may still be an issue for those want to have a public IPv4 address. You can refer to the earlier discussion about CGNAT in this post.
4) There are some routing issues reported as well.

#2 (lack of support) is the main reason that I can not recommend SIMBA to average users as of now.

Power users know their use cases well -- so it is usually not an issue to go with their choice of ISPs. But I would not recommend power users to go for SIMBA either because of #3 (CGNAT without static IPv4 add-on).

4. Issue with CGNAT (MR, VQ and SIMBA) and workarounds
https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/myrepublic-fibre-part-5.4981088/page-340#post-149246011
Majority of users will be okay with CGNAT but some users get affected (eg: cannot do port forwarding or hosting services).

VQ/MR provide static IPv4 add-on for those who hit the limit of CGNAT.

Unfortunately SIMBA does not have that add-on. It provides public IPv6 for 10Gbps plan users as a potential work-around but not able to sort out all issues.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrier-grade_NAT
  • Carrier-grade NAT usually prevents the ISP customers from using port forwarding, because the network address translation (NAT) is usually implemented by mapping ports of the NAT devices in the network to other ports in the external interface. This is done so the router will be able to map the responses to the correct device; in carrier-grade NAT networks, even though the router at the consumer end might be configured for port forwarding, the "master router" of the ISP, which runs the CGN, will block this port forwarding because the actual port would not be the port configured by the consumer.[7] In order to overcome the former disadvantage, the Port Control Protocol (PCP) has been standardized in the RFC 6887.
  • In cases of banning traffic based on IP addresses, a system might block the traffic of a spamming user by banning the user's IP address. If that user happens to be behind carrier-grade NAT, other users sharing the same public address with the spammer will be inadvertently blocked.[7] This can create problems for forum and wiki administrators attempting to address disruptive actions of a single malicious user sharing an IP address with legitimate users.

wi-fi cannot be so fast. 2) recontract to 1Gbps $24.90 2-years or 3) search home access (imda) even cheaper if qualify

Suddenly the good promos from SH and ST like all seem to be gone already, makes me wonder if they were being offered at a loss?

They quoted me 3gbps at 38.9 with Singtel WiFi HB611(wifi7) for 24 mths.

Now deciding between that and M1 with 3gbps with Asus RT BE8U at 32.9 for 24 mths

Mainly because for $63 per month from M1, you get 10Gbps plan with BT10 2-pack bundled it (which is normally like SRP 1.3K in retail)

When you think about it, its like buying the BT10 2-pack on 24 month installment and the 10Gbps internet itself is almost free

Plus, M1 is using public dynamic IP, so you can run and host things like VPN server etc using DDNS on your router. You cannot do that on Simba because Simba is using CGNAT (aka you have no dedicated public IP of your own)

how you manage get 63$ a mth when u add the BT10 2 pack is actually at 86?

This works out to be around 36$ a mth just for the 10gbps.

Viewqwest one is 35$ fixed for 24 mths. Is this consider the best plan at the moment?

At the initial order config screen, yes it will show 85.99 (63.90 + 22.09 for the 2-pack BT10)
The final discount is calculated and shown later at the final checkout where it goes back to 63.90
