Did anyone address the elephant in the room so far? What will happen to local retail with RTS?

If retail cannot survive, they will evolve to something else lor. If things are meant to change, why bother to try and stop it from changing. Online purchases already cause buyers to change their habits. It's inevitable that retail must evolve liao. Anyway sg population much higher so don't worry about not enough ppl here spending their money in sg. Not everyone goes to JB everyday or every week.

So far anyone talk about this?

All the talk and hype over RTS so positive, like last time china one belt one road say until as though it is the best deal in entire history of humanity.

But what will happen to local retailers with RTS? Will jhk travel to singapore to spend here when they can spend cheaper back in jiuhu?

It may make the Singapore goods and services in Woodlands cheaper. Isn't that what edmwers wanted all the time?

Got ah. Got set up task force wor. But we know all hogwash.

For biz it's d jb side will benefit more than sg side.

Even now, alot of jhks will da bao over to sg side while working here. Rather than spend in sg.

Those who value convenience will still shop locally
Hit the spot liao.

The market is further capped to a scale that no yang peeps would want to touch retail, anymore.

Might as well evolve to highest end of the industry to serve the riches or migrate to a fast track industry where IDEAS matters and SKILLS are the tools to make it.

Nothing will be done.

Source - Trust me on this

This is the correct answer.

Lots of smart people in the civil service, this kind of thing / impact should be obvious to them.

If mouth never open at this point, it means that nothing will be done.

Retail is not really affected so badly since transport is very efficient already, price of physical goods won't have a big gap like Nike shoes aren't not cheaper in JB..

More troublesome is for those service retail like massage, hair salon, clinic, etc where the price ice gap is really 1/2 and more.

RTS benefits more to msia than to Sg~ more singaporeans will go over to JB to spend while more Malaysians will come over to work~

JHKs will go back to JB to stay instead of renting here~

service line, salon, massage, manicure, pedicure, spa are ⅓ to ½ price there~ groceries not so much as nearby bukit chagar station dun have big supermarket yet~ jaya gocer at R&F mall still a distance away for walking~

With more singaporeans spending at JB, it means they would spend lesser in SG~

From Google, Singaporean tourists spent approximately 19.5 billion Malaysian ringgit (MYR) in Malaysia that's higher than pre-covid period~ :s22:
