It definitely feels very different. Cos there is the option of not returning or on returning rest a bit and go somewhere else. Cos you don’t need to start work. Btw I did go to KL a week or so after I returned cos just felt bored. So it’s a great feeling. But it can also be a bit scary cos you have no job so your savings will run down eventually unless you got passive income. But the reality is, most of us won’t have passive income at the age when travelling will be so fun (twenties). Even travellers I meet don’t have the passive income. They will busk or something for the income

Trip long in duration has two parts so depends on what you are talking about. It won’t get boring actually cos you are on a trip. You can always go somewhere else if really bored

First point
If you are travelling for months and staying in the same place, you develop a routine within a week and you live life as per normal liao like in Singapore. Was in israel as a volunteer in the kibbutz for two months plus. Had a friend from UK who was there for six months then told his volunteer boss he needed to take leave to go back UK for a vacation to attend a wedding and I remarked “aren’t you on vacation now?” And he looked sheepish and said oh I forgot hahahaha

Second point
You are travelling for weeks and each day is a new place. It’s very engaging and it’s a different lifestyle cos every morning you wake up you think where are you gonna go today

Travelled for 55 days in 2018 for the round the world trip. Woke up in Singapore, flew to Seoul. Seoul checked for ferry then off to China. China walked around prepared for the trans Siberian trip. Took the train to Irkutsk, moscow and Paris. Flew to New York

In the morning of New York, woke up went to Charlottesville to meet a friend. This is Philadelphia. Now comes the part. I know in about three weeks my flight will take off from Los Angeles. So every morning I got up and looked at the map of the USA and know I dunno where I would go but I must head west cos I was travelling by land and I didn’t really have the time to go in circles. So every day just plot a path etc. Then from Los Angeles flew to Tokyo then home

So first point is not so engaging as the second point but first point can be more memorable cos you make friends and maybe even take vacations together which is a 😂 cos you are taking a vacation while on vacation.

Sorry for WOT but it was a very different life when I traveled and I miss it a lot
My travel pattern just evolved with every trip but one thing I dun like is to be completely at a loss of where to go …

but I do keep my itinerary flexible to some degree… if weather is great, I’ll move an outdoor activity to that day, or having some empty days to revisit places or some places that I newly found …

that said, it is very different from people who dun plan their trips, didn’t fix their next destination and didn’t pre book their accommodation. I accept that I definitely had much less element of surprise than others …

you had any issues at immigration for not having a return ticket ?

They are very suspicious cos they have huge migrant issue

makes me wonder if our custom exercise any due diligence. Not a foreigner and won’t know what others experience

I don’t have recent experience on this but while I did have a return ticket, my feeling is that the border officials are less fussy at the Niagara Falls border with Canada. Maybe cos people enjoying the park usually will cross the border at one point of time

World's highest-altitude open-air skating rink, situated at 1,691 meters (5,548 feet) above sea level.
