They are not known for quality control YET.
So, the gamble will reveal itself in a few years time.

They cut quality to increase competitiveness .

Is not only cars . Their clothes especially those winter wear with fake insulating material inside .

Food wise also ...all use 预制菜 to cut down cost.

The whole economy and society is reaching cost cutting limits .

There's no payoff for them in this game unfortunately.... only inevitable collapse

Why need to do R&D when you can steal it?

China has poor legal system. Hence it makes no sense to invest in R&D when the state can just possess it by force. Or people can steal it.

So China focus on operations. Production. Not so easy to steal.

The fact is Chinese car manufacturer overproduced and it will takes decades to clear the entire inventory from the used market. Making it very hard for Chinese manufacturers to sale new cars. Especially when those "used Chinese EV" are basically brand new with zero milage.
