Greed la. It's already quota based, meaning the numbers are already restricted. Bidding is only the allocation method. But when you have a small island with limited land, under developed infrastructure, poor planning, population explosion, it's obvious this cash cow is keeping our minister's pay sky high.

And how to convince stupid sinkies that COE is necessary? By keep gaslighting more cars = Bangkok jam.

You want sg to be full of cars hogging every corner of the road is it? You want sg to be full of carparks built after tearing down parks?

Basically, he just wanted to buy a car cheap, who doesn't?

That's the only way to limit cars on the roads. Have a fixed number and the highest bidders get it.

The other way is by raffles, but that will mean a lot of rich people might not be able to buy cars :o

They will still need a quota system to add / remove cars and achieve a balance.

Make ownership too "cheap" end up alot of cars in carparks and on roads.

If no COE ... 500% ARF and $50 per km driven as calculated via ERP ?

End of the day financial pemalties will still be around one form or the other.
Should make it very costly to operate a car. So can buy. But the parking and storage very expensive. Must purchase car park lots. Or rent from private owners. So there will be a new market of car park lots ownership. If one owns all the car park lots in Sinfapore will be billionaire.

Second when turn ignition on the car has the In vehicle unit turns on. Need to put in credit card. Charge by the minute of engine turned on. Something like $5 per min or part thereof.

Essentially car is cheap to buy but very expensive to own and keep in storage plus very expensive to use.

It is the same reason why they don't introduce wealth tax and abolish estate duty largely la.

Remove COE? If they could give the person/team that came up with the idea the Nobel prize, they would.

200k still to little.

Middle class is around 50-60k. Upper middle class is 60 to 80k. This is all monthly. So should be annual $720k then can qualify to own car sounds more like it.

Collecting 200k from each new car won't be enough for LTA. Other than turning straight road to 'S' curve, they got so many bigger projects that need money.

I saw them taking out 4 lane and making them 2 (in a 'S' curve). Those extra space they put in cycling path. If you think it's easy, they need to remove most of the trees and relocate all the lamp post and then plant back the trees.

SG land so scarce they should also have road tax for all road users including cyclists. Cyclist also need to pay COE. Probably $100k for cycle permit COE.

Crazy to have cycling paths that are free to use? When the next lane is for cars and costs $720k?

LTA is dumb for not collecting money from cyclists.

No way. Roads will still be quite busy. There are A LOT and I mean A LOT of very rich people in SG. It just means their kids will drive their staff will drive their relatives will drive. Also car rental will be big business.

It is not unreasonable to charge $720k for COE.

As for public transport with the money earned LTA can upgrade the public transport system.

Benefits all.
