The so called toughest questions always require you to look at the diagram and find the similarities so you have more numbers you can use to calculate.

It's more of a test if how observant you are and see the relation of the unknowns.

Side AB = 18 + x
Move triangle 3 out until it touches triangle 2.
Then 41 + 3 + x = 2 ( 18 + x )
Solve for x.
QED.
Algebra has not been taught in primary school yet. So cannot use algebra.

One of the hardest part when I was giving tuition is to find ways to explain to my students without using algebra. So good a tool and so efficient, but cannot use to answer since the teacher wants to see the workings but do not accept algebra.

To answer these types of questions, I resorted to using buttons to illustrate since the student's mom had a large collection of buttons.

Then slowly taught them to visualize and draw in their minds.

One of the better ways to answer, but still does not explain it enough to an 11 or 12 year old kid.

Dear Yowe55,

Cannot. While you gave the correct answer and workings, you did not show that you can explain to an 11 year in a way that the kid will understand. Hahahaha

Using trial and error (Did took me awhile). Draw table and do cross check.

Length of AB = 26 cm

Perimeter = 70 + 75 = 145 cm? :LOL:

It was the last question. Honestly it’s hard to see where the 18cm is when you’ve been doing maths for close to 2-3 hours. My kid skipped it. 4m question. Congrats to the kids who got it right.

Permeter is 18+26+18+8+(26-3)+26+(26-3)+3=145
