maybe $10 million is really loose change, anyway, see which hawker want to sell their recipe to these PRCs and can retire

Gateway Singapore​

Traditionally a bridge between Eastern and Western cultures, Singapore is an ideal gateway for expansion with its 6.1 million predominantly Chinese population, said officials at Chinese firms. It is also a wealthy, fashionable place so having a presence there is for good branding, they said.

“If we can build up our brand in Singapore, the brand awareness can go to Malaysia and Vietnam, even Indonesia,” said ChaPanda’s Jia.

Some smaller Chinese names are often backed by deep-pocketed investors, allowing them to outbid local rivals for prime locations.

Michelin-starred Yong Fu from Shanghai, for example, entered Singapore last year with an investment of S$10 million.

The sum covered renovation and provides liquidity for rental, staff and other operational costs such as a wine cellar for about five years, said Ye Cheng Zhong, a Yong Fu director and one of three investors.

With Singapore as phase one, he plans to take Yong Fu to London at the end of the year, then New York and Paris next year.

Investment from large Chinese conglomerates, however, has pushed up rent, particularly in high-traffic areas where the supply of commercial space is tight, said Ethan Hsu, head of retail for real estate firm Knight Frank.

Moreover, the influx of Chinese restaurants “dilutes the organic culinary fabric of Singapore,” said food critic KF Seetoh.

Still, such factors are unlikely to stop Chinese companies’ flight from the price wars back home.

“The competition here will only intensify,” said Nong Geng Ji’s Zhou.

China soft power is here- BYD, popmart, Chinese beverages and restaurant chains, Chinese dramas and popular singers (though still not as popular as kpop)

eg. PLQ mall, two upcoming china toy shops opening

Doubt these shops can survive long once they finish washing their laundry. Walking past these shops usually no customer at all.

We need more diversity fod FNB.
20% Chinese food, 20% north India food, 20% south India food, 20% Malaysian and Indonesia food, the restaurant 20% amdk, Jo or kr etc

it's so obvious but our authorities seem to be not doing anything but instead continue impose aml/cft requirements on other industries

about time the rental mkt, landlords and reits be subject to such regulations

If you think about it, it is like those days when Lazada and shopee came in to burn money. Get you hooked to their business, aka food now, then with that marketing, expand to other countries. Tourists that came here instead of china, will be willing to spend when the restaurant is in their own countries.

How many people queuing for Chagee and Luckin? How many sinkies go JB to drink Chagee

This KF Seetoh not aligned with govt. As with the organics on this piece of land, is the survival of the fittest.

Is like invasive species in the nature isnt it. Stronger/faster/better, and for business richer. If you cannot survive, you're meant to be kill off.

But we are saying we need to prevent invasive species/animal into the environment but the govt is doing the exact same thing to the sinkies. That's why I never buy into those "save the earth" crap. Need to save myself first.

Yup this is what gahmen wanted. Zero hands on approach, full market forces. Let the market decide. Open fairness. The lowest cost, most efficient method will win.
