Thanks for sharing. So you mean those $400+ routers have more powerful cpu/ram than asus BT10, to be able sustain 10gbps lan speed?

I had the impression BT10 was a top tier router from asus given the price point

….Another factor is what you expect that CPU to be doing. When you start configuring routing, firewall rules, and various other functions the processor may only support a fraction of the notional rated line speed.

Do you prefer speed, safety, functionality, reliability, longevity, low cost? There are trade offs.

Yes, Asus ZenWiFi BT10 has a slower CPU (BCM6764L or BCM6765), similar to Asus RT-BE92U.

Only the higher end ones use the flagship BCM4916CPU, like ZenWiFi BQ16, ROG GT-BE98, RT-BE88U and RT-BE86U.

Asus likes to use lower end CPU on the ZenWiFi series, like the older Asus ZenWiFi XT8, which uses the same low end BCM6755 as the low end RT-AX56U. Then higher end AX router like ROG GT-AX11000 and RT-AX86U will use flagship BCM4908 CPU.

ZenWiFi XT12 and ET12 do use flagship BCM4912 CPU, like Asus ROG GT-AX11000 Pro, ROG GT-AX6000 and RT-AX86U Pro.

I would like to ask if the BT10’s CPU could be the reason why the 10G connection on the ASUS built-in wired speed test only reaches around 5.5Gbps. Under normal conditions, should it be able to reach around 7–8Gbps?

I’ve seen some users getting about 8Gbps on the Eero Max 7 using its built-in wired speed test, so I’m wondering if this difference is due to hardware performance.

Yes the built-in OOkla SpeedTest results are affected by the CPU.

On the other hand, that test basically has nothing to do with the speed of wired and wireless client devices.

When you have a proper 10Gbe Network Adapter on your PC, you will get similar 8Gbps when connected to the LAN port of either Asus ZenWiFi BT10 or eero Max 7.

If you have already Asus ZenWiFi BT10, no point to switch to eero Max 7 which has much worse firmware features.

The CPU will affect things like VPN client or VPN server performance.

Now is about 4.3Gbps up/down using 5Gbe.

now its running as mesh setup.
as my room is right behind the kitchen and the main mesh is at entrance.
desktop is wired up to the mesh .
dont think the eero can work with asus.
so looks like im either stuck with the asus
or i buy a wifi 7 usb or pcie card

Basically with low cost eight and Starhub Fibre Internet, no point to consider SIMBA Fibre Internet.
