I would recommend wd gp too for its low noise and low temperature. Typical throughput for 323 ranges from around 160mbps at gigabit port to below 300mbps at 9k jumbo frames. So getting a faster rpm hard disk may or may not have significant improvement in the nas.

Hi guys, i'm intending to get this niftty NAS but seeing the number of posts... i guess there'll be a huge learning curve. Its not that i'm not willing to learn, but it would be good if u experts can guide a n00b thru all this configurations?

Once i get my hands on a DNS-323 what do i need to do?

1. Upgrade to the newest firmware?
2. What do i need to do for BT and MLDonkey to work? I hope its not too tough

I think the answer to part 1 is yes. You can upgrade firmware w/o format but becareful.

For part 2, I also encounter lots of problem when I tried to use my brother HL2040...if u check my post u know when problem it caused me.

So for ur case if ur printer is not on the list of recognised printer then i think u should....don't even bother.

No, I used windows.

Not sure if telnet will copy hidden files, etc over ?

If you used windows, means that the files was copied from volume_1 to your pc (over the network) then from your pc copied over to volume_2 (over the network). So i guess it is your pc and network speed that is causing the terribly SLOW speed.

hidden files would be copied unless you dun have necessary rights.

Hi all!

I have tried to read majority of this thread (o_O 62pages) and i think the DNS323 will be the solution to my problems. Most probably will get the 323 this comex as the price if $199 is quite attractive.

a few questions

1) will the 323 be able to work on single hdd alone? cause of budget constraints i am thinking of getting a 500gb hdd first then when i am richer, upgrade to 2x 1TB hdd. i am guessing it wont work with a 500gb and 1TB hdd side by side right?

2) i understand that 323 has an USB print server, is there any models restriction? i would like to link my old HP Laserjet 1000 to it and share among my family members.

3) ftp access to the 323 means i will be able to access my files on the NAS via another internet connections (ie wireless@sg, bbom, sch network, etc) and still have to a download via the net?

4) security... access to the the NAS will be only restricted by my home router WPA2? I am currently using a dlink 615

hope someone will be able to answer my queries before i head down to do comex to get myself one of this!

1) Yes, 1 500GB and 1TB can work side by side and you get 1.5GB
2) Not from what I know as long it is not a AIO printer
3) I tried to access it from outside, can't seem to connect eventhough I forwarded the port and the ftp service is started
4) WPA 2 is wireless. Your DNS-323 is plugged to the router.

I have bought the DNS-323 and I have download the firmware 1.5 from D-Link SG site.

But when I try to install the the firmware after I extract it, DNS-323 reject the firmware. So how to I go about and find out which is the right firmware 1.5 for my DNS-323. Any link or pointer on this firmware problem. Thank you.
