I believe your mldonkey generates files belonging to root, the superuser. You can't delete other's files through samba shares via another user login and must be done through telnet or ssh as root user.

Use ls -l command to view ownership of files.
Don't quite understnad.....can help me with a step by step pls.

Next time can google for "man chmod" or "man <command>".

-R = recursive (files and directories)
777 = Allow everyone to read, write, and execute file

For those who uses direct connect, edonkey and bittorrent. MLDonkey 2.9.6 has been compiled for the DNS-323/DNS-313/DNS-343. It has been compiled to run on fonz's fun_plug (0.5) and mlnet is now executed to run as nobody so as to avoid file permission issues.

For those interested to compile your own application. You can check out here. With some exploration, you would be able to compile transmission, mldonkey and others.

@new64, use MLDonkey webUI or 3rd party GUI like Sancho to configure MLDonkey. Run Sancho in compatibility mode if it refuse to launch.

Next time can google for "man chmod" or "man <command>".

-R = recursive (files and directories)
777 = Allow everyone to read, write, and execute file

Ya can't find an article that is in "English" mah here are some additional infor to why is "777"
Bitmasks
The other syntax that can be used with chmod involves an octal bitmask to represent each possible set of permissions. This is less intuitive but worth understanding. In the octal representation, a three-digit number is used to express the permissions on a file.

Each digit is the sum of three bits, with 4 representing read permission, 2 representing write permission, and 1 representing execute permission. The bits are added together to give a unique total: read plus write = 6; read plus execute = 5; all three together = 7. So 755 is the same as rwxr-xr-x.

This syntax can be used interchangeably with the other in chmod.

Some examples:

chmod 111 filename - gives all users execute permission, nothing more or less

chmod 754 filename - owner has full permission; group can't write; others can only read

i like the green powered WD hdd. very quiet and cool i could barely hear the spinning sound from the harddisk. its a major difference compared to the Caviar Black - loud.
