That was totally awesome right! I wonder if it's a wake-up call for all Singaporeans and especially the local authorities like the Singapore Police Force, CASE, Commercial Affairs Department, ACRA, etc... :s8:

I've watched and noticed CASE's representative who spoke on the show were just talking poppycock. A lot of us have approached them for help but were told that Sound Sonics was in no wrong but on the show, the representative spoke of the same issue saying that what Sound Sonics is doing is in fact illegal. Two-headed snake? Hmm...

I've recorded the show. I'll post it up here soon.

Good! cant wait to watch it again. I agree that CASE were talking 'poppycock'. I went down and their media team were not even interested in creating awareness. They told me they have done it before. But when the mainstream media cornered them, they had no choice but to give the politically correct reply. I'm utterly disappointed in them. So much for consumer protection.

Ughh just fell for that scam 2 days ago... bought those Orix speakers for $480, though those a**holes wrote $300 on the receipt.

Went home to browse through the internet to check on my supposed good luck and came upon this thread...

Pissed off yeaa..

Anyways was scanning through this thread when I came upon the following by sHAckLEd83....

findjunting, sad that you're on the same boat now. Hope the damage wasn't that bad.

According to the law, what they are doing is not cheating because this is the layman's definition of cheating. The only thing you can do is make a complaint about misrepresentation and take up the matter to the Small Claims Tribunal (SCT) and try to get your money back. I would suggest that you make a police report first so that you can take civil action (i.e Sue) if you want to in future. Not much use going to CASE as they are not interested. I went and I just became a statistic. They told me to go to the media but according to so many others who had written previously here, the media also don't seem interested. Commercial Affairs Dept also don't really bother as I've mentioned earlier, their definition of cheating is different from us. They will only ask you to make a police report.

So what we can do is to go to the SCT.

Step 1: Fill up this form -> http://app.subcourts.gov.sg/Data/Files/File/SCT/ClaimForm.pdf
You will need 4 copies of this so write 1 and photocopy 4 sets.

Step 2: Buy the business report -> http://www.bizfile.gov.sg/
$5 to buy the business report. Unfortunately, the website is down till the end of the year so maybe you can try one of the following;

1. Crimsonlogic Pte Ltd
(Formerly known as Singapore Network Services Pte Ltd)
Enquiry Line : 6887 7888
Website: http://www.crimsonlogic.com.sg
URL to view services: http://www.biznet.com.sg

2. Dun & Bradstreet (Singapore) Pte Ltd (D&B)
Enquiry Line : 6565 6262
Website: http://www.dnb.com.sg

3. DP Information Network Pte Ltd (DPI)
Enquiry Line : 6738 1900
Website: http://www.dpgroup.com.sg/dpinfo
URL to view services: http://www.1questnet.com

Step 3: Go down to the SCT @ the Subordinate Courts (Chinatown MRT) and submit the form and business report along with 1 set of supporting evidence (receipt, warranty card etc) to the counter. Press a ticket for "registration" if you have all the documents ready. If not, you can just press the "enquiry" button for more info. If you need to photocopy, there is a photocopying service at the 7th story. 15cents per copy. Filing period is 9-12 and 2-4 p.m. There is a $10 charge for filing a complaint.

Step 4: The registry will arrange a date for you and the owner of the company to come down to mediate a payment. If you are happy with what they are offering you, you can close the case there and then. If not, you can take this to the next level where the meeting will take place before a referee (legally trained/qualified person) and both of you can present your case. The referee will make the decision. You can still appeal but then it's to the high court next. Hopefully you will get everything settle by the time you reach the referee.

If you have tons of money, just sue them. That would be the best way actually. These companies will continue to operate because the victims settle it before it reaches too high. My advice is to stay firm and fight for the full amount which you have paid for (in the event where they wrote a lower amt on the receipt than what you actually paid for). It is disappointing that legally, we consumers are not protected from such scams and deception. This is what you get when your country is practising free trade.

Although, CASE will not do anything, maybe with enough people complaining, they will in future. The problem is that most of the people are not willing to put in the effort to make a difference. As long as they get their money back, they don't care. Sure speaks alot about the condition of our society now. I for one, am going all out in an awareness drive. I don't want my family or friends to be scammed.

Thanks bro for putting that up. Gave me hope that there's a fighting chance I could get my money back.....

Question is... Any pointers on how to fill up the claim form? Especially under Brief Summary of Claim.

I was thinking of writing down...

"Salesmen claims that they would sell me the speaker set for $480. However, the receipt only states that I paid $300 for the set. Salesmen left hurriedly in their van before I could ask for an amendment.
Moreover, they claim that they are selling the complete home theatre system, wires and amps inclusive. When I ask them to check the system in front of me to see whether all the items are inside, they only open one box and showed the top of the speaker. They left hurriedly, claiming their boss have called them and they need to hurry back to the warehouse."

Am I missing anything here?

To those who have successfully claim back their money... Would you guys mind lending a helping hand here? I am a fingernail close to setting fire on their warehouse and killing everyone of them and running away to Malibu....

Hi guys,

Joining the long list of victims. I paid $300 for ORIX speakers. The van was a blue one at Yishun St. 72. The guy said his name was Ron HP: 82100325 and gave his IC no. as S7626623I.

Only found out I got scammed when my parents told me about the long series of cons that were reported in the media and on TV. Curse my luck for not knowing... The receipt they gave me listed Sound Sonics Acoutics at Tagore Lane and wrote the amount as $200 instead.

I called the guy to demand a refund and he said that he will come and pick it up in 3 days. But judging from what other people have posted, the chances are slim for me. The guy probably gonna change his HP no...

These guys are so bold to continue even after being exposed on TV...is there no end?

I nearly got slammed by them, months back, in Admiralty (Woodlands too, just opposite the police post behind Admirarlty Market Place) area. Driving white Mitsubishi van. Initially, I was just happily blasting music from my loud portable speaker when they stopped by the road side and approaches me. I smell a trap when I saw the price was oer $1800 as written in the papers they were holding, with claims from USA and stuffs, but offering $250 at that time, due to clear of stocks. Told them a lot of times I wasn't interested, in the end, after minutes of negotiation, they left.

Then, shortly later, one of my relatives told me they got spare speakers but no amplifier. Guess what? They're the same as I saw from the van. ORIX speakers. Except, something was not right with the details at the back. Non-genuine, said 'Engineering in USA'. Hello, what's with engineering, bad grammar? ORIX used to be in business but closes it a few years back. The cable connection was also the weird kind. Wondering why you seem to need 2 input audio cable for one speaker..

But anyway, my dad plugged it into my Panasonic home theatre. Wasn't that screaming loud as the original slim tall-boy speakers. But the cones looked nice to touch; those sharp pointed dust cap.

So I guess I got it for free without getting scammed in the first place. From other forums, many others tried their luck but didn't manage to claim back their money. Some managed, but only claimed the amount stated on receipt. So firstly, the lost over $100.

I think that would suffice. Good luck with getting your money back. Pls advise all your friends not to fall for this too.
