I am about to pull the trigger on a pair of Actiontec MOCA adapters from Amazon. Smallnetbuilder seemed to suggest that this is the way to go to stream 1080p videos reliably and discussions over at AVS confirm this.

Can these adapters be found locally? I am open to any brand that's available.

Aztech has one, but they're only for SingNet fiber user deployment.

Shipped in from overseas lor. But then you buy Wireless bridge maybe more easier to get the b/w

Actually, I am keen to test out this technology. I already have a coaxial point in each room, plus the halls on each level, so you can say that I am actually all 'cabled' up.

same, coaxial point in each room. lol
but i read reviews, too many splitters will result in slow performance too

If PoE, then no need for wireless camera liao. Easier with wireless cam, since only need a power point rather than a internet point.

I hope not. That's why must try out. With 7 bedrooms and 3 halls, I hope the splitters don't degrade performance.

so it's not 1 to 1? the COAX-IN and OUT seems to suggest a strict pairing requirement.
not very sure how it works

Got the pair of Netgear MoCA device and tested confirmed faster than my Homeplug HL115EP. Setup is basically just plug and play.

Fyi, there are some online shop in US is selling one pair for US$89.99. Anyone interested to get? I need one more unit to extend my reach to my bedroom to prepare for my potential switch to Fibre. Hope to split with anyone who is going into this technology.

Thanks.

Just an update:

I got a pair of Actiontec ones from Amazon. No actual tests done but feels that these are as good as connecting cat5 cables from router to media player. I am on a non-gigabit network but no sweat even for 1080p streaming.

For those who are interested Amazon is selling a pair of Netgear ones for only $79 now. I paid nearly double for the Actiontec ones and felt it was money well spent! May just order a pair of Netgear ones to hook up my PC.

so is this 1:1 or can form a network with more than 2? if better than 115ep sounds great!

How about cable splitters with these? ie splitters - 1 to Cable TV and 1 to network

I am keen to share cost of buying the netgear ones from amazon

Hi haipeng & ttlim21. I am new to this forum, my first post. Seems the MoCA Ethernet over Coax Adapters are what i need ( did not know these existed till now). I am keen to share cost of buying the netgear ones from amazon, if you are still interested. Can you use it straight from the box or do you have to buy additional voltage converter &/or 2 to 3 pin adapter plug? Thank you for your reply.

Hi, does anyone know if the MoCA Coax-Ethernet Adapter Kit is avaliable in singapore, instead of buying over the net?

Guys seriously i believe these devices are illegal. The coax signals carries RF from Starhub and what the moca will do is to inject noise into the starhub network. These injected signal if overlaps with the one of the frequency used by Starhub to carry data, will cause lots of problems for the entire neighbourhood.

I believe IDA will be very interested to look at these devices as they are very anal when it comes to RF interference. I will drop an email to IDA for clarification later.

If you are using this, i hope you are not my neighbour.

Legal or illegal

I'm only looking into this technology due to the fact that all my rooms at home are connected via coaxial. Also very interested in getting 2 or more of these adapters. Not sure if anyone is able to advise if there are any good deals still out there.

In any case, the fact that moca devices are supposed to use spare bandwidth in the coaxial network (ie. bandwidth not used to carry TV signals) suggests that this method is perfectly legal.

IDA has also listed this as an option for home networking. Below is an extract from IDA's "Home Networking Reference Guide Detailed"

Coaxial Home Networking

Existing coaxial cables can be used to transmit data within the home. Coaxial adapters can be used to connect residential gateways and computers via TV points.

This option can achieve transmission speeds beyond 100 Mbps and may provide connections to most rooms for basic usage.
