Based on the following pic of the DECA power supply, the input indicates: 120V 0.5A.

Does it mean I have to get a step down transformer of more than 120V X 0.5A = 60W

Means I have to get a step down transformer of around 120w in order to have a margin of safety?

Is it also possible that instead of getting a step down transformer, I get a similar adapter compatible to local power outlets of 220v, with the same output of 12V 1.5A = 18W ?

Yes easier to just get a 12v 1.5A power supply from sim Lim or any spare power supply tat u may haf tats fit the output requirement. U can use those wif higher A but must maintain 12v. Ensure the D.C. Plug fits properly. Bring along the deca adapter to test the plug size to ensure compatibility.

so the amps can go higher but now lower. What if it goes lower.
For voltage, what if it goes lower or higher?

If higher voltage, maybe work once and cease to work after that. :s13:
If lower amps, may or may not work or become intermittent. :s22:

Deca has no encryption right? Will it be safe to use without encryption? Can the signals be eavesdropped?

Also, they can also be powered by USB.

actually these are very low power/current kind of devices so logically it can be powered by USB plugs but unfortunately we are not able to because USB is 5V and this Deca needs 12V

Those sockets are not used by anyone in the house. So I guess its fine to just plug it into the TV RF Socket directly right?

yes exactly

How exactly do I connect this? The voltage in usa is 110v-120v. While Singapore's voltage is 220v- 240v. Does this support 110v-240v? Or do I have to get a step down voltage adapter?

get a cheap variable voltage power adapter available in all hardware stores and you are good to go. i have been using the Deca to stream miotv channels for quite a while with absolutely no problems at all. the connection is smooth and unlike the home plug there is no other device on the connection so it is like a dedicated link. and it is cheap too :D

it is safe to connect the Deca to the tv point on the wall face plate since nowadays nobody connects to this to receive free-to-air channels

So if I would like to connect the other end of the network to a PC, I would need another set of this? Just like how a homeplug/powerline works? They need to work in pairs? The DECA device can be placed at either end in any orientation right?

yes and yes and yes to the three questions :D

AC Power Adapter Needs Safety Label

This is for consumer awareness.

Power adapters belong to the 45 categories of Controlled Goods under the Consumer Protection (Safety Requirements) Registration Scheme, and are required to carry the SAFETY Mark.

An example is shown below:

Quote from Spring Singapore

"Do not buy Controlled Goods without the SAFETY Mark

It may be tempting to pick up that new gadget on sale overseas, or that really cheap AC adaptor from a popular online marketplace. Without the assurance of the SAFETY Mark, you and your family could face undesirable scenarios like the following –

An AC adaptor could overheat and melt, posing fire and electric shock hazards

...

Until they realize that -

- Some spring-certified power strips can allow you to insert the plugs 180 degree backwards. Basically those that are designed for compatibility with 2 pin devices and yet insufficient distance between live/neutral holes and edge of power strip.
- It doesn't say anything about the build quality of these devices. Loose and broken mechanisms within power strips and 3-way adapters, cables with appliance-side connector pins too loose - these are the kind of things that result in melted cables and fires (Ever heard cables make noise before?)

- And the king of all these is, my room in a relatively new flat in Punggol which has its renovation done by HDB had a broken socket switch which got stuck and then caused the whole flat to trip when I used force. The first and only time I encounter this.

But, man, certification makes your products safer by making people pay more. Its good. Carry on.

Spring certification and quality issues are different matters, although some aspects are similar (same same but different, haha)

Just an analogy. A barrel of apples are sent for certification. Some are picked at random. If they pass the tests, the whole lot are released for sale. Some unlucky buyers get the bad ones.

Quality products cost money.

Even space programs which cost billions or trillions, with the best brain, best hardware and best software, there are records of disasters.
