Not sure if it will ever happen to atom. Intel is a stubborn company which don't seem to see the benefit of having onboard dedicated GPU like AMD E-350

I think they are trying but just cannot make it in the graphics department lol. Not like AMD was able to do it themselves, they bought ATI for it too. But somehow for a netbook, a longer lasting battery is still more important than power and i guess Intel just haven't found the balance. If the Ivy Bridge processor work out well, they may well overtake AMD again.

Newer Intel Atom series will be using PowerVR graphic core,
performance of the graphic will still unable to beat AMD radeon
especially now Intel faces driver issues with PowerVR graphic.

Intel thinking was that since it could engineer powerful cpu
why not they engineer gpu by themself.
Problem with Intel graphics is though they can get faster and
faster but hardly any games support Intel graphic.

U can plays on Intel graphic but it's performance isn't that good
so for gaming avoid Intel graphic.
AMD chips wise is design balanced for all purpose, not to forget
that in the older days AMD chips are meant for gaming.

Ivy Bridge is for mainstrean/highend machines not netbooks.
Intel aim at just purely brute cpu power market.
When AMD will offer best price and balanced performance chips
which includes cpu and gpu.

So if u're talking about cpu power market, intel will no doubt
dominate ever now. If u're talking about all round performance chips,
no way Intel can overtake unless they buy Nvidia and create their
own hybrid chips.

Think Nvidia will never get themselves buy out by Intel but i am really hoping that will happen. I think most games has better support for Nvidia?

Most games run better on Nvidia, mainly due to CUDA
and PhysicX
During the time AMD want to buy either AMD or Nvidia.
Nvidia stood in their ground that they are just want to compete
on their own instead of merging with other companies.

Even now Nvidia still stand in their ground and venturing
into competition with ARM with Tegra chips.
Nvidia, has one step ahead of Intel for smartphone/tablet chips.

At Microware in Funan they're selling the 1215B for $599 with 4GB ram and external DVDRW. I didnt see it anywhere else in funan though. Theres also the hp dm1 with E450 going for $599 at the roadshow on ground floor. BTW is the USB 3 feature standard across all the 1215B models available here or is it like the K43SV where there are some with USB3 and some without? Cos its not mentioned in the microware brochure.

USB 3.0 is a standard feature with 1215B
And its located on the right side and it's blue colour so it's difficult to miss it
U might need to check with them if the ext DVD is Asus or not and is it collectible on the spot.. I remember previously a few users need to head down to Asus service center to collect it

Yup, I'm quite sure it was $599 but there's no brochure or anything so i may have remembered the wrong number. The shape of the laptop is rather strange though, very squarish compared to the 1215 and the samsung series 3 which are rectangular. The 3yr extended warranty is $80 according to the salesperson.

Are you sure the HP DM1 @ $599 is not Challenger's Trade-in Promo?
All challenger stores having that price promo.

The 1215B w those freebies beats Fujitsu's Ph521 which costs 699 w free ext DVDRW and 4gb ram

I wonder if the refreshed 1215B will be launched during Sitex in nov..

Quite sure it wasn't. But the name of whichever company was selling wasn't on the booths so it may well be. On the booths were just the brands of the laptops and the brochures they gave were also straight from the manufacturers of the laptops so i cant really be sure.

jb selling 1215P for rm1099. 2gb ram and n550. worth it compared to 1215B?

N550 is intel atom. So there is a big difference is graphic performance.
Intel atom focus on raw CPU power and low graphic performance. Whereas AmD E-350 is a balance between CPU power and graphical performance.
Alot of my friends have switched over to AMD e-350 netbooks and they have been very happy with it.

If u are gonna buy electronics from Msia, the most impt thing is to ask their wArranty, whether is local or international.

If e-450 is out grab it! It give way better performance and battery life then 350 but do take note that HP has a tendency to use weaker batteries...

Just went to check, is confirm with trade-in for $599 (if not i would have got it! :( :s13: )

went to shop around, the 1215B still looks the best, but it doesn't have E450 for now..

Dell M102z with E450 version has quite a nice design and style (glossy cover, sure alot of scratches one.. and the sides looks ugly!), also at $699 but without USB 3. it is heavier at 1.5kg+. And it has a 500gb 7,200rpm hdd!

Fujitsu with E350 is at $699.. :s22:

Would you settle for the old Dm1 with E350 for $599 instead? lol
I saw it at Tiong Bahru Plaza Challenger just now and both the Dm1 variants are placed side by side!

Hopefully Asus can release their refreshed Asus 1215B soon! or perhaps a new model with AMD E450!
I did however see 1215 display set at HN@ suntec selling for $549 w ext dvd (collect from asus).

Hi guys, I'm looking for a netbook for mainly work related purposes. Some criteria I felt would be necessary,

-Light & portable (I travel a lot)
-Decent screen size (currently using a MSI u130, get a headache if I use it for too long)
-Good battery life (pref 6 hrs or more)
-Usages would be multiple internet tabs, MS office, PDFs and using work related software to generate some charts

So far I've shortlisted 1215B and HP's dm1. Read some pretty gd reviews about both of them. Is the touchpad issue for 1215B still a problem for users here? Hope to get some feedback. Thanks in advance! :s12:

Hi I am a 1215B user here for about 3 months. Just sharing and to do a simple review of this ultrabook/netbook/ultra-laptop. Having used 10" netbook, business laptop (such as lenovo X210) and 14" laptop so I am doing comparison.

CPU performance - The E350 chip is good and fast. Mine is 4GB RAM. Tried multi-task and found that max I can have is 4 windows open simultaneously (video, surf net and downloading, edit docs and copying files) before u see any significant lag. Of course still lose to those i5 i7 intel lah, but comparable to i3 in my opinion.

Battery life - approx 6hrs on power saving mode. If using it to work and watch video for full duration, i estimate can last 5 hrs max. Much better than the other laptops i have used.

Weight - Light. I think its 1.2kg? Only a bit heavier than the 10.1" netbooks. Can fit into those tablet messenger bag. I using a vertical messenger bag meant for 10.1" tablets and it just fits inside nicely.

Screen size and Graphics - 12.1 or 13.1 if you want portability and not squinting your eyes at the same time. 11.6 i find too small for watching video or play game or do work. Graphics is good. Played games L4D2 and CS source normal setting. A bit of lag but bearable. Played video and also connected to HD TV using HDMI, both very good and clear.

Build Quality - the touchpad problem. It was a problem when i bought it a few months ago and I had to go down to the service centre to change. Troublesome even though it took less than 10 mins to rectify it at the centre. The keyboard is nicely laid out although i had some issues with the right shift and enter button which were quite small. Cover is matt black (i think also got glossy) and inside screen border is glossy. I find both are finger print and dust magnet.

Others (pre-installed apps, connectivity, camera, fan noise, heat etc) - Most of the pre-installed app I seldom use. Webcam is ok. Noise and heat level is fantastic, very low noise and i dont find it hot even on for 2 hrs in non-aircon room. There are 3 usb port, 1 of which is the usb 3.0. Adequate for me. The sound is decent, using realtek hd audio. Plug in headphone always got some screen popout to ask me configure sound settings, but i guess that can be turned off. There is always auto update notification when i turn on the laptop, then will tell me its the latest after checking. Dono if can disable that function or not as i find sometimes quite irritating. I believe that is to update the Nvdia drivers.

Overall i am very satisfied with the 1215B. Was considering the dm1 also but screen size 11.6" a bit small for me (as mentioned earlier).

Forgive me for some of the amateurish expressions as i not computer expert and above are my views only. Hopefully this review is useful for those who considering to buy this laptop.

Bro, first thing Asus 1215B uses AMD Radeon 6310 but not Nvidia graphic card. Seond E350 processor is a netbook/entry level class so can't compete with Intel i5 or i7.
