Let be fair. Not all able to get it. Some can while come cannot cause they don't really recognize our Certs, working experiences in Singapore & etc even if we are assess by Prof bodies unlike Singapore almost any FT can replace you.

Eg: A LEW Electrician with ton of working experiences in Singapore can only get restricted licence in Australia which almost no employer want to employ you. Thur Prof Assessment bodies, while you earn your unrestricted licence to be recognize an Electrician, you must attend course like a student & work OJT as a trade assistant for a least 1 year in OZ with low pay.

Some of them able to get job because they study OZ D/L degree in Singapore, some go the hard way to be assess & recognize, some go to find other trade jobs.

I do know some become Supervisor/Manager in OZ in term of promotion & job hop.

The people u know from Australia ....

Anyone that studied here? Not happy with the pityful pay here ... and landed with much higher engineering pay in AussieLand?

We do not talk about those who studied in Aussie and getting a job there. If for these people ... promotion is very bleak. Anyone u know who managed to climb the corporate ladder?

No need wait 4 u to share ur experience ...

I know plenty friends who graduated from Ang Moh countries ....

And I repeat.

U will be the hated FT there. That is if u manage to get that job.
Ur promotion is limited.
Unless u r a young and pretty asian female only will u b embrace by the white males. Even then, wait till u r old....

Only close friensd will share with you what's happening. Some even breakdown and cry regretting their move.

Common friends will paint a beautiful picture that they are having a great time with the Ang Mohs. :)

Haha, maybe?

When I experiences that I will share in the thread for people to know more about it.

I only know of 1 asian guy who managed to land a good paying job in the engineering field in the Ang Moh country.

And that guy graduated with top honours and from the top university on par ranking with the likes of MIT.

Unless u r that person .... dream on with your engineering career.

If you have experiences working in construction site, do consider to work overseas so that your experiences will not go to waste & you may earn higher income compare to Singapore.

my current company is just a stepping stone...though i have an engineering dip but my further studies is no longer engineering any more.
i'm handling more on project management and site works are not part of my job scope.

Construction industry is the worst of all ....

Engineers in construction industry are ridiculed by all .... including being known as Phua Chu Kang.

engineers don't earn big bucks in the construction industry but the consultants do.
architecture and design consulting firms are the monopoly players in the construction industry.

however, the top of the food chain are those firms with links to the govt...especially those related to TH.

Pls .....

Only the Architect makes the $$$

The structural, mechanical and electrical engineers makes 1/3 the architectural fee and does 3 times the work!

Pls get your fact and figures correct.

But I do agree with u that engineers don't make big bucks in the construction industry :)

And I do agree that those firms that are linked to TH are at the top of the food chain. But then again .... if you have the link to TH, why even bother with engineering?

If you continue to move up .... very soon, you will hear this from your bosses ....

If $$$ and pay is what u r looking for, you should be in banking.

Like you, I too have friends who graduated from Ang Moh countries & if you are talking about US, UK & etc where demand of jobs are much lesser then graduate/people, there will be a large number of unemployment.

Only those citizens who maybe or already affected by FT will hate FT & those those who are not affected will not even care about it.

This apply to the world.

Eg: Govt job like DXO in Sg, they don't even bother about FT cause no affect on them & they still earning better them most of us in Private sector.

Unlike Sg where FT can directly start work at management level, other counties will question your education qualification & working experiences in your home country.

So this mean that those who are in low/low middle level position in Sg will not be affected much cause they almost start from the same place in foreign country where they left in Sg.

However for those who are in high/high middle level position in Sg will be affected case you will needs to left your comfort zone & stated even lower then what you do now which not all are ready to do it in Sg.

What u talking?

First u advise engineers looking for better pay to venture overseas.

Now u say US, UK & etc got large number of unemployment.

Then u say low/mid level position not affected and will be same position overseas. If same position overseas ... then go for what?

And then u say high/high mid level position affected ... and this is really getting confusing!?

Wah... very sad for engineers lah. I think ... most engineers will end up be come taxi drivers ... when their manufacturing plant close down or when construction slows. That includes those who made it management level hoh! You don't think u can escape.

But I do agree on one thing. Gov job like DXO are not affected and earning better.

Same position overseas but much higher net pay after tax. Why not?

If you are a NUS business graduate working as a Admin Manager of a company however when you go OZ to find job, they do not even hear of NUS & do not recognize your working experiences, what can you do? Start off as Admin Asst with pay cut in OZ compare to a Admin Manager in Sg.

When manufacturing plant close down or when construction slows mean most people will be unemployed. No saving & etc left in the bank. So why do bank still needs so many staffs? Bankers will be axe & join the unemployed!

And that is y 1 must look at the bigger picture.

Singapore is poised to be the financial hub.

Manufacturing peaked at the 70's.

Something so simple also can not grasp!

I explain in simple english.

It simply means engineering jobs become banking and finance jobs.

Not bankers la... it's the professionals like Doctor and Lawyers la... Doctors (normal ones) earn 500k per year...... Doctor Salaries - How Much Do Doctors Earn?

The heart specialist la.. brain specialist la.. earns 7 figure yearly regardless of market good or bad... if fact bad is good for them as ppl becoming more sick...

As an example....

Either that or you do business..... Bankers is not what cert (only play a small part) you have.. is who you know and willing to buy/invest from you....

This is the main reason why I still in SG.... so sad....:( regardless u r from NUS or DL degree.. unless you are a local, u will start from bottom of the food chain again.. I'm too old to go thru this crap again...

the greed of TH has no boundaries...just look at opennet.
even as contractors they also want to earn...

Some one did ask me about tax in OZ, so I do some calculation with some help from friend.

Do Australians tax contributors pay 40% of their income as tax?

Take a look at the income brackets and the different tax levels. (Based on 2011 tax model)

0 – $6,000
Nil

$6,001 – $37,000
15c for each $1 over $6,000

$37,001 – $80,000
$4,650 plus 30c for each $1 over $37,000

$80,001 – $180,000
$17,550 plus 37c for each $1 over $80,000

$180,001 and over
$54,550 plus 45c for each $1 over $180,000

Eg. If you rake in about $60,000, your gross tax (not including tax rebates, more into that later) would be

(60,000 - 37, 000) * 0.3 + $4650 = $11,550

Your gross tax would be $11,550/$60,000 x 100% = 19.25%, excluding tax rebates. Should you take off 5% of this from rebates, you may be contributing around 14.25% at the end of the year.

A far cry from the 40-50% figure we always thought it is, isn't it?

So I am wrong to say to say it is 40% of tax we needs to pay in OZ from our salary.
