seems international upstream is back to pre-Sitex speeds again... barely going above 1MB/sec for seeding.. :( what happened? is it the legendary PCCW route?

We have checked with multiple users as well as our test lines and do not see the upstream issue. Can you try rebooting the Zhone and router, if it's still slow please give our hotline a call for further troubleshooting.

It all depends on what your criterias are for the fiber broadband. List them down in sequential priority order and we can share our opinion whether VQ will fit your criterias or not.

If cheap price is listed on the top 2, then VQ is out for you.

I download alot of movies, tvshows and torrents.

I surf the net.

I trade shares and forex.

I would like to have IPTV if the channels are really good as I do not have SCV.

I don't play games though I used to last time. Not sure I would in the future.

** I'm currently using M1 fibre 100mbps and so far not much complaints, only that they have maintenance on a certain weekday around 2am onwards. Speednet download and upload speed is ard 20-30mbps. They are offering 39$/mth for another 2 years.

Appreciate your advice.

You should see a noticeable difference in terms of downloading and torrents as we don't throttle or cap that kind of traffic.

When surfing the net the experience will be about the same except when streaming HD content (less buffering overall).

Trading and Forex - Not sure how M1's network compares to ours in this area, however a significant portion of our corporate clients are financial/trading companies so the network has been designed with their needs in mind.

The IPTV is not really intended as a replacement for SCV or Mio (at least...not yet ;) ) - it's main purpose is to convert a normal TV into a smart TV; allowing it to access internet content such as facebook, YouTube etc...
That being said - with Freedom VPN you'll be able to access channels like Netflix and Hulu.
Personally, i much prefer to watch tv shows and movies on these than on cable since it's all on demand so i'm not tied down to TV schedules. Netflix has a massive back-library and Hulu gets the latest episodes from the US so I don't really need anything else (pretty much stopped torrenting since I got these :D)

One thing to note - we do have a monthly maintenance. It's usually conducted between 1-5am on saturdays in order to minimize disruption for our customers. We are looking into how we can minimize the disruption period.

Hope that helps! :s12:

Thanks for the detailed explanation.

So for the IPTV, will I be using the appleTV? Sorry very new to this.

As for Hulu & Netflix, do I have to pay extra for "their" subscription fees?

Is the package $65/mth? Any additional fees when I sign up.

I'm also considering myRepublic, any views on this? (Singnet, Starhub is definitely not my choice now)

Also, I'm connecting 3 laptops, 1 iPad, 1 iPhone and 1 smartTV.

What's the typical download and upload speed say on speedtest.net?

Thanks again.

Since we've extended the SITEX promotion, yes the IPTV device will be an Apple TV (this will be given to you during the installation).

For Netflix yes. Hulu has both a free and paid side (the paid one being Hulu Plus) - IPTV devices usually only have Hulu Plus. You need to use a web browser to access the free side.
Both subscriptions are around the $7 USD range if i remember correctly.

The $65 package is our Fibernet 100 Bundle - which is our lowest bundle plan. There are one-time charges that are applicable to all our plans - an Activation fee of $53.50 and a Registration fee of $80.25

I'm happy to hear that you're considering non-mainstream providers - can't really comment on MyRepublic's services as i've never tested them. Nice bunch of guys though (we always "bump" into each other at the IT shows :s13:)

You can download the forms from our website and e-mail them to cs@viewqwest.com (if you want to pay via GIRO though we will need the original copy of the GIRO form so you can either mail that in to our office - 58 Duxton Road - or drop it off at sim lim or the office.)

To signup in person you either go to the sim lim booth or come to our office - sim lim hours are 12-8 everyday; Office are 9-7 monday-friday.

Earliest date for installation as of today is 26th of december.

The Zhone 2426 - in addition to being a modem, it also has an integrated wireless router.

Zhone | Products | ZNID-GE-24xx | zNID - Zhone's Intelligent NID

Hi,
Next week VQ will be coming down to install the network for me. I have an Asus RT66U can I used mine router than the one provided by VQ? Can VQ people help to configured it for me? Any area I need to look into it or concern I need to watch out. I want to be able to go to Hulu and Netflix also.

Thank You

You can check out this NGNBN SpeedWave that I started.

Contributions (of test results) are from forumers as well as general public and probably performed at every VQ installation (or maybe some of it, used to be every installation). ;)

Hello!

You can use your own router no problem! Just let us know that you would like us to do so (please e-mail noc@viewqwest.com to let them know). The installer may not be able to help you configure it but we'll be happy to help you over the phone - just dial 6723 8100, option 3.

I guess I will keep my recommendation short and to the point.

Look for a VQ plan that you are comfortable with in terms of price and with the least contract period (VQ offers no contract and one year contract plans).

For no contract plan, if it does not meet up with your expectation, just terminate. For one year contract plan, just give you one year duration to experience the extreme good side of VQ connection most of the time, as well as some occasional period of not-so-good side of VQ connection (like the Oct-to-early Nov poor international upstream), end of the day, it's just one year. On the flip side, there is no price hike after contract ends. So at the end of the day, if you still love what VQ connection offers, continue on. ;)

ViewQwest is not perfect though it's trying to improve on areas that it is weak at. But ViewQwest is definitely above some of the other RSPs out there.
