In what industry and role?
My company's AAs all doing full sets and have got to draft FS![]()
For now any industry that is willing to offer me an accounts assistant role really. I'm an A lvl student with 0 background in accounting (Never took POA in O lvl as well) and 0 accounts experience so I'm willing to try any job that offers me to handle AP/AR/GL. Basically, the basics first... Once I have the experience then I can slowly move up. I wasn't free during my first 2 years. First year was because of personal reasons and second year was because I was taking up my driving so only now I'm free to look for a job.
When i took intro to tax 2 sems ago, it was the 2nd time its offered. My exam paper was much more difficult than those who took it during the 1st offering. I thought i was unlucky until my friend who took it last sem, his paper was even more difficult than mine. The concept of intro to tax is not difficult, but it seems like they are testing more in the exam.
I guess unisim is more or less raising its standard. MOE does audit on unisim as they approve unisim in awarding its own degrees and also very importantly to ensure the 55% govt subsidy is worthwhile since its taxpayers money.
I support the decision to start looking for accounting related jobs so that when u graduate, u will have some related experience. When i was in year 1, I started by working as accounts assistant in a sme. During year 2, i moved to an audit firm to work as audit assistant. Now going into final year 4 liao still stuck in the audit firm. Its helpful to work and study though, i had an easier time clearing the accounting and audit modules.
Looks like the trend is getting more difficult as the year progreses =/
Yeah I guess it's quite a possible theory that unisim is upping the standard so that taxpayers' money does not go to waste.
Exactly my sentiments, I know I can't compete with local uni grads based on paper alone so I need experience to back me up. I wanna try audit asst previously but after I thought about it, I decided on trying out accts asst first. In the future then I'll give audit asst a try. Yeah, to study sometimes which you can apply at work or learn something at work which you can apply in school can be pretty useful.
Let me guess you're in one of the mid-tier firms? RSM perhaps?
For me I started out as an AA in a MMC, would probably stick to the commercial accounting route.. and specialize in one industry.. my third year now, not too bad.. got some progress career wise..
Oh yea, in order to gain a full CPA membership.. need to attend 5 day seminar followed by a simple test after... and also need 3 years of accounting experience.. so those pursuing their degree/ACCA.. good to build up now![]()
AA = Acct Asst or Audit Asst? LOL..
Personally, I'm skipping the CPA route and going straight for the SQP route because based on what I understand when I went for the SQP talk, SQP is set to take over CPA SG in the far future so personally, I find that it's better to start now =)
