So true.

People part with their money for what seems like a great deal. They forget why they wanted these specific speed in the first place. They see the glaring monthly difference of $10-$20 less for "speed" labels advertised; which they will very unlikely or never get. They get so mesmerized by the offer that they no longer consider if the provider will:

1. offer and strive to provide the bandwidth promised (there is a clear difference between "200Mb Speed" and "Up to 200MbSpeed") The latter is very easy to achieve.
2. detail all payable elements so that you know what you are paying for
3. provide personal tech support to help iron out performance issues
4. allow recontract/upgrade of subscription midstream to a better package
5. offer subscribers faster speeds than what they originally subscribed for
6. listen/act on subscribers feed back and complaints swiftly

All the above have been practically unheard of until VQ.

VQ, you have done well with me as a subscriber. I am impressed. Keep up the class act.

Please keep up the good work.

And don't forget the importance of quality international peering, no traffic shaping, no proxying.

Bro, if your router cmi, dunno what can? :s22:

Strange that most routers except Zhone and Phil's Draytek cannot handle in excess of 300mbps decently on VQ. Maybe kellogs or somebody with the Edgemax might want to test it on VQ infra first.

I was expecting Cisco 1941 to be able to hit in the 500Mbps range. But sadly, the CNY boost to 500Mbps proven it cannot. Plus minus 290Mbps seems the max. I have not try to upgrade the IOS (current not on its Security edition) since it is not the ideal IOS version and edition that I would love to be on. Upgrading cost quite $$$.

I remember someone mentioned Microtik specific model was able to achieve the 500Mbps speed while some other models can't too.

Too bad Zhone's own router function is too limited and does not support VLAN and other 802.1ad or 802.1af stuffs which my core Cisco switch is running (for me to separate network into segments).

Yeah kinda surprised cos the hardware should be capable to at least 350mbps.

At least a RB1100AH and above. Lower end models below that doesn't cut it as well even though specs say otherwise.

That's the price to pay for being too geeky!! :s13:

Singnet offers Raptor-like plans too?

VQ must really be shaking things up. :D
cos i combine both VQ + ST.
but disable the ST link for only that speed test server.
ISP detection is done on the main speedtest page. so it detected as ST.
if enable both will be around 500mbps..

can see that traffic is only on 1st link

this is with the ISP detected as VQ

Guys. Gonna get a 3rd gen Apple TV from VQ because I signed their bundle plan.

Can I check, without freedom VPN what can I do with the ATV? Just flick videos to my TV screen? =_=

With VPN I can get Hulu and Netflix right? Is there free content on those two platforms or do I have to pay to watch anything?

apple tv is primarily used to buy or rent shows from itunes store.

the free options are merely to airplay or stream from youtube.

you can get netflix and hulu using dns services like unotelly as well.

i believe the hulu app on the atv is hulu plus, which is the paid version.

drop by my place to check it out! :)

Sshhhhh... Don't reveal social connections here.. Hahaha..

So with the third gen ATV I can get unotelly without JB? And you don't need a VPN then?

I'm always amused by the numerous "potential customers"* who complain about five dollars here, ten megabits there but clearly attach no value to the quality service they'll receive. If all that matters to you is $10-$20 difference per month then sign up with one of the big three and I hope you're happy with what you get. Personally I believe in paying for quality (you get what you pay for), attach a cost to quality rather than only caring about pennies.

* We must reserve judgement as to how many of these are real customers and how many are shills.

Most only want to surf net with internet connections unlike hard-core gamers and downloaders .But during peak hours the traffic light ISP speed becomes like SMRT scenario most of the time even youtube is loading slow.
Traffic shaping ,international limits hurts torrenters alot .
If people are into heavy gaming ,downloading ,streaming its recommended to ditch the traffic light ISP ASAP and pay more for quality internet.

Impossible. When you have people scrambling to queue hrs to buy $1 meatballs trying to get them to pay $1 more is like squeezing blood from stone.

Quick question before I drop by it show. Which of the Asus routers support ivp6 with viewqwest? The rt56 or rt66 model? Not going for ac66 as I do not need the added wireless capabilities. Tks

None (if on default firmware)!

Asus N66U - Dark Knight (only with DD-WRT v24-SP2 Mega - not a stable firmware)

Tks. I suppose its not an issue if there is no ivp6 support? I intent to use a NAS and the static IP feature.

why is there a need to pay for VQ modem rental? VQ prices are already on the high side. Most ISP do not charge as rental but include this to the monthly cost.

I recall that m1 started charging rental for their modem or RG in the beginning too. So, in order not to lose out when comparing prices between different RSPs, VQ may have decided to also account for the modem rental fee separately from the headline service fee.

I don't agree with others' comments implying that this itemisation is a good thing. Customers can't consume more or less than one*. If it's not optional, why itemise separately? Would you applaud if you get separately itemised flat-rate charges for customer service, real-time graphs? Some of the snarky comments are amusing, but may be uncalled-for in this case.

* Unless someone has had success in subscribing to 2 x Raptor plans and put them on the same Zhone - more bandwidth and less cost than the Fibernet 500Mbps plan? :s22:
