@j_t_fusion I see you very active on UniSIM topics... How many CUs you've done? How many CUs do you do in every semester? I'm just quite disappointed with my pace.. I only finished (I suppose) 22.5 in past 3 semesters. I'm taking another 15CUs in July 2013. The more I look at how many units I left, I feel more depressed sia...![]()
How does this bell curve thingy works? I looked at wiki but, still don't understand... Layman's terms please.. Just for knowledge whether UniSIM have it or not.

i believe they have cos for some modules the marks i got are way better than expected...
I don't know about your course but my lecturer says there is![]()
Ohh..Damn...I should just picked up one more 2.5CU to push faster.. With my pace, I think I can only finish in another 3 years or more.if all goes well, i am only left with SAP and capstone and i will be done.
my course is direct honour so need to complete more cu than other courses.
on average 20cu per sem.
Bell curve means drawing a graph to plot all the scores, then the top 20% get A, 20% to 25% get A-, so on so forth. So if your batch performs exceptionally well, your 80 might get a B+ or A- instead of an A, likewise if an entire batch did too badly you might get an A+ at 70 instead of 85. So the graph is basically bell shaped since it goes by percentage, hence the name.
Don't know if I should be saying it here, but a few years back, I've worked under their examination department as a temp, basically bao sua bao hai, from delivering question papers to exam hall, counting the scripts and making sure the student numbers tally at the end of exams, handing over scripts to markers, collecting the marked scripts back, tabulating final scores and classifying retaking, resiting, and grades.
So yah I can tell you, there's no bell curve cause we basically did everything, then just update the perm staffs if there's any system error. Or I should say, there really is no room and time for them to bell curve.
If my memory serves me correctly, after the lecturer returns the marked scripts, they will put the final marks on the booklet, and we have to check that those matches the systems' marks, and we also had to add them manually page by page to ensure the marks on the book are correct. After that, we will add the non exam part with the exam marks to ensure that the final marks and exam grades are correct, ie, 40 + 40 = 80 and this guy should get A instead of A- or A+.
By this time, the results are already in the system, we're just doing error checks, that's why people can calculate their results from student profile before they are actually released because the system is already updated. And yes, we had to check that they are updated correctly too.
But I believe there's moderation, and if too many people fail the marks will be moderated. But moderation! = bell curve, if everyone got A, then everyone will get it. I've seen modules with 80% of the batch getting A or higher before, which bell curve will allow that?
Likewise, if you fail means you really fail jia lat jia lat, the appealing is really no use cause these is really no room for error due to the many levels of checking.
So yeah, in conclusion, either the system has changed, or there is no bell curve. And if there is bell curve, UniSIM would not have taken the extra step to get external people to set exam questions for 2012. Of course that has also been scrapped with effect this year cause that's just retarded.
And the main reason why I decided to take a UniSIM degree, other than cheap due to government subsidy, if because I know there's no bull**** bell curve, I wouldn't be studying here if it existed. And of course because their staff are really professional and take our scripts and marks very seriously.
duh....exams in 2012 were set by outside people??? No wonder so difficult!![]()
Sorry but jus like to check, is it really true tat 2012 exams paper were set by outside people? instead of the sch lecturer ???
