Was thinking of getting one of the USB 3.0 4 bay non-raid ProBox as well... Any bro here run into any trouble like frequent disconnecting etc?

No frequently but once in a few days, happen mostly to one and sometime another drive. it may happen anytime but a PITA when torrenting overnight. but AFAICR, happen less than 10 times when left overnight, mostly when I accessing the computer.

the bay had been running 24/7 since last 2Q, may be firmware or HDD issue. I use USB3 connections.

Seems like a common issue.. after doing some more research, there seem to be quite a number of users being affected... Maybe I should save up money to purchase a NAS system or DIY one myself.. :(

I have connected the Probox 4Bay to my Asus router RT-N56U USB 2.0 port.

I plugged in 2 harddisk, both initialised GPT and formatted.

- Transfer speed from PC to the harddisk over Gigabit from my PC to router is about 12MB/s.

But after I copy a file to the 2 folder that appeared under "Network", I tried to create new folder. Then the router seems to become unstable.

PS : I WILL NOT RECOMMEND PLUGGING Probox 4 Bay to router's USB port and try to access more than 1 harddisk.

This is my own findings. You may try it at your own risk.

Just wondering.. for the 4-bay RAID version, is it possible to do a 2 X RAID1 (2 sets of mirror), instead of the usual RAID-5 ?

I ask ProBox support before.. They mention to me is in the next release but another product line :(
Thats why I have bought a Stardom SR4-WBS3 :D capable of doing 2 RAID 1.
Somehow the sales man also propose Onnto Brand which allowed 2 Raid 1 too...
you could refer to this 2 brand if you need such Raid set.

if you were using a MAC Pro, add a eSATA PCI-e card :D

or usb 3.0

me hv both. drivers not very stable.

to answer edwan@ question - if used usb 2.0, expect usb 2.0 transfer speed.

if u got thunderbolt port (not first gen macs with display port), u can get this Sonnet - Echo Express SE eSATA to Thunderbolt Adapter

don't make sense because too expensive. better to buy an actual nas with ethernet port.

ive clarified and there is no way for me to use the estata unless i have a thunderbolt port.

TB-Express card - Esata

So, again , this option is out for me, so my next option is to find a 4bay dock with TB or FW800 output, its easier.

any good price bay to recommend?

I bought the USB3 non-RAID 4-bay model for an iMac and it always disconnects when waking the Mac from sleep, showing the "you should eject first" error message. Had to return it in the end.
