He can do for Goodyear welt and hand stitch back? :s8:

That's what he said. :s13:

Affordable and look decent is quite about the only description I can find for Pedro.

As for comfort and lasting, I think it depends on the wearer. I for one never found them to be able to last. 1 year max.

I bought one pair (casual shoes) from Pedro and decided I'll never buy another pair again. Used it for 6 months and the back of the shoe had a hole due to wear and tear. For the money I paid I seriously expected more.

the bata ambassador range uses very very lousy corrected grain leather. think after 1 month of moderate wearing sure peel/flake off. go take a look

hmmm sorry to off track, but i think BATA slippers are quite good. :o

Need to buy them when they go on lelong.

If you're lucky, 1 of the odd sizes fit you. Never buy from Pedro when there are no sales.

By sales, I mean those more than 20%.

Of course I stopped buying from them.

Same goes for beetle bug. Overpriced for that kind of quality.

Interesting. I've bought quite a few pairs of shoes from Pedro but so far no issues with them at all. I do alternate between a number of pairs of dress shoes for work. 1 pair from Pedro lasted me over 2 years and would have still been with me if not for an accident that damaged it.

The inner linings do flake off(depending on colour) but thats inside which is not too much of an issue for me. The outer shell is pretty lasting.

BATA actually has a long an illustrious history of providing well made and affordable shoes.

Saw this yesterday night, might suit those on a budget below $100. Probably a better buy than Pedro, though you get less choices in terms of colour / design.

70% off the ambassador range! The brown fully brogued shoe is retailing at $49 after discount!

Hmm, which branch is this?

The 2 branches at AMK don't hold ambassador (was inspired by uncle Petia's FB post to check it out)

yea which is the branch of bata?

I know for sure Bata at Vivocity has them. I honestly think Vivo Bata has the most awesome ones in Singapore.

I also know Bata at Jurong Point has them. I go there so often anyway.

I would assume the Bata main store at Lucky Plaza would have them too. It is obviously the biggest store, but the location may annoy locals. =:p No offense meant, just being frank.

3 questions for shoes enthusiasts.

  1. What decent suede protector (meaning waterproof-er and not cleaner) is available locally?
  2. Any decent oxfords/balmorals for women in Singapore?
  3. Anywhere to browse really nice shoes here? I intend to window shop and feast my eyes on the visuals only, so price is no object. :s13:

Allow me to take you guys on a yearlong adventure to bespeak shoes. I was in the market for a pair of shoes and my friend was raving about this shoemaker and after inspecting a couple of his shoes, I figured I’d use him.

I sent him this picture of a pair of Japanese shoes and told him I wanted my shoes to look similar except that he should obviate the eyelets, have it made in brown. I also asked that my initials would be punched in the front of the shoes in place of the regular medallions. That was non-negotiable without which there would have been any deal.

Determining the size was perhaps the most harrowing out of the entire process. He had me put on shoes whose sizing system he was familiar with – Cleverley, John Lobb, Crockett & Jones, Vass and Meermin – and tell him my size in them, how I felt in them, and send him pictures of the shoes so he could, by looking at the flex-points and bulges, ascertain the size I’d need.

Here’s an example of a picture of well-worn Meermins I sent him

I also provided him with actual measurements. I’m kiasu that way.

Fast-forward 7 months later, and I didn’t have any updates. I was getting a little hot under my collar and at the same time, beside myself with anticipation.

I sent him an email and requested for pictures of the work in progress. To my horror, I realized that he didn’t make them to my specification. The language barrier had come in the way. He had punched ‘broguing’ details all around the shoes, whilst I had only requested them to punched in the front.

What Japanese maker? Are you calling this bespoke, when you've to send him measurements?? Will you be getting test shoes? Btw, your feet look incredibly wide. Mind if I ask what your feet length and width are?

You are serious about punching your initials on the toe? I assume you meant the toe area when you said front of shoes.

If you are, it sounds like this is meant to be for casual wear. Then may I suggest getting a wide Norwegian welt? Darn, I am such a fan of that...

1) I don't mean bespeak in the sense of a bespoke pair. Rather, bespeak in the sense of choosing details. This is a MTO, albeit a different sort.

2) Early morning. Don't have time to think carefully before I write. I know 'toe-cap' :) But I think you got my point.

3) I think nobody but ppl who really peer closely will be able to tell this monogram medallion apart from regular ones. I think. Might be wrong. Still, it'll be a casual pair. Not so much for jeans t-shirt casual, but casual in the sense it won't be for work. :)

Continuation ...

I was a little resigned, but brought it up. To his credit, he decided to remake it.

He then sent me pictures of the shoes that were semi-complete –

I also reminded him about the monogram/initials as medallion, and he provided me with a sample that I didn’t quite like. Supposed to be “C L’

I then proceeded to go check out the various fonts and decide which I liked. I did a digital mock-up of how I wanted my initials to look and sent them to him.

If it costs as much as I think it does, then I agree that he should be following your instructions to the T. Those initials are gonna be screaming loud wahahaha... :s13:

Awesome shoes nonetheless!

Just a quick heads up -- This Thursday (29th August), Tangs orchard is having a 20% off all regular merchandises, on top of the usual 12% members' rebate. So if your keen on LLYR shoes you can drop by to have a look. Tangs members, check your emails!

Didn't know Tangs Vivo didn't sell LLYR. Hunted for some time can't find it and the staff is also unsure. So I didn't get to try and possibly buy during the sale yesterday
