Hi All,

I researching on behalf for my girlfriend. She graduated in Diploma in Accountacy ( Ngee Ann Poly) around 2years ago and going for a degree course.
I have shortlisted the following for her.

UOL (UK Cert) / SIM (Spore cert) / Murdoch (Australia) all in accountacy.

I have found the following conclusion. I believe all 3 degree are recognized in Singapore and their respective country especially SIM which spore is promoting/supporting it since it is produced from a local private university. But internationally I guess, a UK cert will be more recognized than the rest. I understand some employer view recognized certificate just a entry requirement to the job, the rest is depend on communication and performance.

UOL will take around 3years to complete part time @ $20K
Murdoch around 1.5year-2years @ $16-$17K.

So am I right to say Murdoch ( shorter time and internationally still stand a place) is a better choice if there is plan to work in Singapore and overseas in future? Can anyone advise?

definitely UOL. or how about ACCA?

I was thinking Murdoch vs UOL but I am wondering why UOL takes 3 years to complete whereas Murdoch is around 18months.

I dont think ACCA is worth for poly accounting graduate. If I am not wrong F1 to F4 exemption for local poly accounting graduate. with around 9 more papers to go. Cost wise cheaper than degree. But level and passing rate should be tougher.

Popularity in Singapore?
I know there are a lot out there. But some is a question mark whether it is recognized. I am quite sure the above 3 degrees even in govt sector it is recognized.

Why not worth? not uncommon for ppl that has a degree and be doing ACCA.

working overseas? a Murdoch will not get one hired just because its Murdoch.
didn't study in OZ don't even think U gain some pts on PR application.
didn't see the true adv here.
UOL is a direct honors program, do well the options for higher degree isn't as narrow compared to Murdoch

Murdoch is shorter cos you are effectively taking only Year 2 and 3. Your diploma will exempt you from Year 1 modules. And instead of months long term break, you only get like 4 weeks break in between? That's why it is shorter.

that's precisely why I asked the qn:s13:

how do u define popularity? If u ask a foreigner, he'll probably know UOL but if u ask uncle auntie, it's likely they are only aware of SIM but dono the diff btw unisim and ge. So what's popularity?

grouping these 3 as your final choices looks a bit weird imho because of the different merits/benefits they possess. Anw I'll rcmd UOL like what patryn33 said

UOL better...After graduation you get a quality degree and get 8 exemptions, Taxation is the one not covered as UOL curriculum does not include Tax specific modules.

After graduating you only need to take another 6 modules, which can be done in 2 years or even a year if you take 3 modules per half a year.

SIM by that are you referring to UniSim? I don't like the idea of UniSim as it is only locally recognised.

Murdoch, you have to check for the exemptions for ACCA. Unless it is for CPA Australia then I am sure there will be maximum exemptions.

We went for the preview session for Murdoch before. I asked the course manager is murdoch a direct route to CPA Singapore, she said ya? From my knowledge it is not? I dont understand why and did not further research about it.

Popularity among student who intend to further studies and employer.

Yes I agree SIM is recognized locally only, otherwise to get into ACCA it would not have only 4-6 exemption as compared to UOL which get up to 8 exemption.

Actually I am in ACCA level 2 and I find it quite tough to cope ( maybe due to work+study+3papers per sem). So I hope UOL/Murdoch is not as hard and recommended her this 2.

UOL is seriously not a bad choice. Now UOL is gaining much more recognition worldwide and internally well-known and has a reputation. So it would be really good for u and your gf to get into UOL.
