good to hear! Can you share what caused this downtime? As a networking student I'm genuinely interested!

Not sure yet - letting the engineers concentrate on fixing it first and then we'll hammer them for a cause :D

OpenNet needs to connect the fibre on backend and do a signal test before handing off to VQ.

The ONT for VQ will be delivered, the existing ONT from other ISPs can't be used

Okay thanks for the clarification! The ONT for VQ is also a router right?

It appears that the FreedomVPN DNS (and other stuff on 202.73.*, like fibernet forum) are reachable again. So can revert to default settings and enjoy pptv again :D

Now, if only they could fix youku.

Yep it can be set as a wifi router, or if you top up for a discounted Asus RT-AC68U it can be set in bridged mode with the Asus having the full routing features

Youku is a seperate thing from this - there's some updates on that in the fibernet forum, some issues with the chinese providers. the team has been liaising with them but looks like it'll take a bit more time.

If they don't know what's wrong, then how do they fix it? Just reboot everything?

Not that barbaric :p - depends on the problem but usually you can identify what's wrong and fix it fairly quickly, but finding out exactly what happened in the first place can take a little time.

Think of it like fighting a fire. Solution is easy to figure out, but then have to investigate where the sparks came from ;)

Will post an update once everything is confirmed back to normal and a final one with the results of the investigation.

@ viewqwest,

I've always wondered why people like to place services which are meant to provide resiliency on the same (or very close) server, subnet, network, rack, building, etc.

This is a case in point, I guess. Perhaps, consider separating them?

VQ's reliability is really something that needs to be addressed.

This is the third or fourth outage I've experienced this year, and it's not even May.

VQ's not:
  • Fast - Consumer Broadband Report
  • Reliable (seriously, I experience around one outage per month?)
  • Cheap (look at the market)

Last year was good. The **** really hit the fan this year.

I'm starting to really regret re-contracting.

ironic theres a viewquest ad when i come to this forum.

anyway can connect internet but still very slow and some services like usenet not working still.

i agree with the poster above, at this rate will not be recontracting when contract expires.

Ok let's everyone not overreact here. I'm just as peeved as the next person, but we're not talking about water supply here. There are so many variables in data flow.

Even the 99.999% guaranteed uptime service for corporates went down during the recent Singtel exchange fire.

This is one of VQ's very very few major downtimes and I say this as one of their first residential customers.

I also don't agree that they're not fast. Don't talk about dumb speed tests. I have both VQ and SingNet 500 at home and have tried comparing downloads conducted at the same time. VQ almost always wins, and by a w-i-d-e margin.

VQ, I've spoken up for you many times, deservedly. I just hope you take it as encouragement to do better and keep up with the competition. Even the best of us needs praising now and then to keep us going, right?

Hi ahlee,

That's really quite surprising! There hasn't been an outage like this in quite some time - definitely the first of the year.

Have you contacted NOC for the other times? If there's ever a problem with your service please do not hesitate to contact NOC by phone or e-mail (6723 8100 / noc@viewqwest.com) and/or send us a message on here, facebook or twitter. We're always more than happy to help - the stability of your connection has been and always will be our top priority.

Wow good for you.

mine getting 82/117 ++ on 200plan.:(

I can't access Netflix leh.:(

My first outage in my first month with VQ.

Hi Michelle,

Network still not fully 100% just yet but will be there soon. Again, we just can't apologize enough for this.

Can assure you that this sort of thing does NOT happen often and once we've confirmed what happened you can be sure that we'll be taking steps to make sure it doesn't happen again!

Well, I do hope so since I jumped ship from the Green and do hope I can stick around with VQ for good.

May I ask whether is it normal for the status light on the zhone to continously blink right now?
