Just watched Wakamonotachi EP1...

The OP was just like the 1966 original, in black and white stills, coupled with some beautiful aerial clips of Tokyo Skytree...

Soon realised the Skytree reference... the protagonist lives in Shitamachi....

Of course that means this is a show about poor young people and their struggles...

And I mistakenly thought this would be a heartwarming rites of passage story. The mood of the first EP was definitely sad and nostalgic :(

Postscript: ...damn painful to watch. Too sad.

Just finished Wakamonotachi 2014 ep01 last night.

Personally I don't agree that it's a super-duper melancholic j-drama that only contains sorrow or sadness elements, the first half of the j-drama was quite interesting to me as the family members squabbles with one another every morning, with Satoshi Tsumabuki being the eldest member of the family with their parents being gone. Taking responsibility for the whole family and being the oldest among them, his role and character kinda reminds me of Eguchi Yosuke's role in Hitotsu Yane no Shita series and Takashi Sorimachi's role in Hotman series, both TV productions which had 2 aired seasons respectively and involves alot of popular actors/actresses even today.

I agree that the family background setting and overall premises of this drama contains quite abit of depressing and gloomy impression, been that the family is poor and each have their own relationship problems/conflicts. However I think it was pretty nice to see a wacky/fresh side of Ai Hashimoto's char in this drama, and Eita been just out of jail (who seems to be related to Satoshi's family as according to drama synopsis) who gets acquainted with Masami Nagasawa's character who seems to be a stranger out of nowhere, prolly someone who used to know Eita's parents in the story. It was definitely kind of weird to see her in this sort of style/image, considering it was just not too long ago that we saw her as Yamapi's pretty ex in Summer Nude.
:s22::s22:

Wakamonotachi definitely has alot of elements that are full of win IMHO, and with the relatively strong supporting cast list I hope this drama won't fail my expectations.

Just saw her in Oyaji no Senaka ep1 with Masakazu Tamura, better known as Mr Furuhata Ninzaburou himself. She has aged quite a bit and I don't think she will be suitable for the kind of role she did for Hero1 again.

Oyaji no Senaka is basically a collection of stories about fathers and daughters, so it will be a different story each week. EP 1 was a pretty heartwarming story, recommended.

Finally took the time to watch Hero 2014

Call it a hype or whatever, but I am glad the show totally stuck true to the previous one. The cinematography, the interactions between the prosecutors in the same office, the As seen on TV health gadgets, the bar owner who can whip up any dish.

Like Shomuni 2013, this really brought back the nostalgia. Unlike GTO 2014, which totally has no feel with GTO 2012 at all -_-

If this keeps up, maybe this will be the next new-gen drama to climb up the all-time Top 10 ratings, after Hanzawa Naoki :s12:

Though the first case abit easy to guess whats is really going on ._.

Wakamonotachi EP2 is more of the sob story, but this time I feel there is less theatrics and more quality acting.

First 2 episodes looks like they are just trying to catch up with the back story for each of the character. It will be interesting to see how they develop it from now on.

thanks for the website man :D

i stopped halfway through yesterday after full of anticipation :(
felt that the new cast trying too hard to emulate the old cast, i almost cringed in some parts of the 1st half though.
will continue the rest of the show later though, hope will be better

Hero 2: nostalgia yes, but...above sums up how moi feel nicely :s13:

PS: Kimura needs a decent TV rating to prove that he is still the king yeah...aft many many flops and overtaken by masato sakai (for the time being at least, Oct Hanzawa 2 wave incoming again)

somehow managed to finish the 1st episode w/o switching off.

although ep1 has high ratings, but ep2 onwards' ratings will determine whether anot this sequel's a flop anot :(

This is the 1st time kimura acted in a sequel despite his previous stance not to star in any sequels. think he also desperate liao after what happened in AI love and Priceless.

I thought Priceless fared quite well?

2nd episode of GTO 2014, totally cannot give the drama 100% attention. And the irony is, this episode tackles ADHD =X

Guess the only thing that is keeping me watching is Kizaki Yuria

Agree. Coming from a fanboy of Kimutaku and Japanese dorama since the early 90s, its sad to witness to rocket rise and fall of the Japanese entertainment industry. How many still remember the golden era of the 90s when we get to see Japanese CD CM, dorama, movies, tv variety shows almost everyday and even midnight? It was norm and expected of Kimutaku to chalk dorama above 30% rating and gekku is only reserved for the kings and queens... Come and go, there are many dorama queens from Yamaguchi Tomoko, Tokiwa Takako, Matsushima Nananko, Matsu Takako, Takeuchi Yuko, Nakama Yukie. But none of them really stay on throne long enough. There were a few prince-lings challenging the king, Sorimachi Takashi, Takenouchi Yutaka, Yamada Takayuki, Matsumoto Jun, Yamashita Tomohisa. But non is near to shake the holy throne...
But having said all that. I have to say I am a faithful lover. Once a japanese lover, I am going to die as one. No korean drama or kpop for me. My 2 cents worth.:D

Btw, is anyone here watching "Petero no Soretsu" also? Is it a sequel to "Namonaki Doku"? Also, anyone know why the episode is so strange broken up into 2 pieces de? I am watching it from bukit timah... haha

I am watching Petero no Soretsu. now on EP2 already. The first EP was very long as it is the entire bus hijiacking incident.

The second ep is both confusing and exciting in the same measure... after the bus hijack, seems that things are no longer the same.
