If u like Sony more. Just stick to it. My Samsung netbook and hp spoilt after the waranty period end. That why I never believe buying other Samsung product esp tv.
Seems like all their electronic appliances have this problem. HP also start to give problem after 2 years.

Too bad Sony 2014 range mostly active 3D.

Just hooted a display set Samsung UHD 50" HU7000.

The display was brand new from box taken out for the westgate roadshow. Quite worth it with 4K resolution. $1599 only, normal new set is $2099.

Wanted to get the 55" but no more display set. This will be for my room.

Hi Tremor, Who did you buy it from? "Closing down sale" at courts selling at $2199 (unopened) display unit!?! No freebie. :(

Congrats on your hoot!!! :s13:

Hi Guys, been forever since i bought my last TV, super out of touch with all the tech.

started a new thread but had been advised to post here so here am i.

BTO gonna be finished soon , Currently using Pioneer Plasma 42". 7 years ago if i rem correctly it's $3399.

It's still working well, probably due to the fact that i do not watch alot per day. hahaa..anyway i realised my TV watching habits have changed.

My requirements for the new TV.

1. Must b 55" and bigger. (of cos must upgrade mah right?)

2. PQ must sama sama as my old plasma.

3. Now smart TV can play many file formats? These 2 years i've just been
downloading shows and watching. US serials, movies mostly and youtube content.

4. I'm streaming from NAS to PS3 currently and hdmi connect to my plasma TV. I plan to replicate this setup, without the PS3 is there any cheap set-top box to do this via wifi?

I'm not moving the current stuff into my new house. So all hardware will be newly acquired. TV budget is only $2000, or if can even lower the better. Abit heart pain but feel worth it for the pioneer last time since it can last till now and still going strong.

How many rooms, you BTO? This will determine the max size you should get based on the size of the hall and the possible viewing distance. (Depends on how you furnish). My suggestion is to get a 60" TV lar... for $2000, I think can... but no SMART TV function (i.e. no internet). Since you have lots of media formats to play back, it is better to get a dedicated media player which can also access the internet. This might work better in the long run for you. Sharp 60" TVs without SMART function are below $2000. If you're getting a Blu-ray player then you have to add about $150 to your budget. Are you getting a sound bar as well? Or some home theater speakers? Add another $300-400. Of course you can low end ones, about $150-180 can get. I feel these low end ones good enough...

Otherwise with $2000, if you want a built-in SMART function and wireless receiver, then I guess you're looking at between 46 - 55" depending on brand.

4rm bto. A however distance prob no issue, living room is longish.

Probably a sound bar is good enough. I'm not too particular about sound.
Researched a bit found western digital TV live box has functions that I need. Stream movies on my network storage. But that's old tech. Any newer more powerful cheaper device that can achieve the same function?

I don't think I need all the new gimmiky stuff like 3d. Budget of 1500-2000 would best be spent on size and picture quality. Any recommendations? Last few pages mainly on Sony TV.

I will still go for Samsung. This 2 55 inch models are now on sales at HN.

UA55H6400AK ( $2.1K ) and UA55H8000AK ( $2.9K )

If don't mind older models, think a 60 inch is possible below $2K.
