Hey Nekorin,

Sounds like win updates had failed to apply. You may want to try the inbuilt windows repair tool via your windows cd, if not, we can help to resolve it for you.

it is mildly frustrating just when we thought mobile GPUs have reached the point of ultra settings on native resolution, along comes a new industry standard higher native resolution to go back to square one of GPUs struggling once again. I really hope 1080p does not fade away on laptops in the future by the time im planning to upgrade to my next machine.

i Think it depends on how you look at it.

The really interesting thing about 3k and 4k displays is that even if you choose to run at 1080p (FULL HD) on them for a game, the image looks crisp still. So from a gamers perspective, you can still run at FHD, and use the 4k resolution for your other tasks.

In the end though i feel it all comes down to personal preference, so imo once we get a display 4k model. it'll be easier for users to make a comparison and find what suits them best.

imo until things like UI scaling in desktop programs can work with 4k to make such programs better usable on small size screens, i feel like these 3k/4k things are likely to be only good for watching videos. i wouldnt even really consider it a form of future proofing unlike desktop monitors since we're talking about notebooks here and even if the rest of the technology improves like GPU down the road, by then you'd probably have gotten a new notebook entirely.

But end of the day I guess like all technology it has to push to market somehow to earn back sunk costs etc. Waiting for GPU power to play catch up wouldnt really be wise in a business sense from the display manufacturer perspective.

Once you get 3k/4k on your 15 inch display units i'd love to go see how the desktop/gaming resolutions look like in different contexts (gaming at native, gaming at downscaled, desktop UI etc)

If you are happy with 1080P, stick to it bro. To be honest, I am happy running with a Full HD panel on my 17 inch laptop. 1080p monitors should not go away anytime soon considering you can still find laptops fitted with crappy resolution monitors. ;)

My take is that it is cool to have monitors with 3/4K resolution. However, how practical is this in the first place?

1) Games - Observation is that mobile GPUs are just barely managing at 3K resolution.

2) You mentioned good for watching videos, but I honestly don't see plenty of videos at 3/4K resolution. Most Blurays I find are upscaled to 4K, rather than native 4K. Contents online are also likely to be upscaled.

So all in all, not much of a benefit right now from my opinion.

If I am gaming, I am happy to stick to a fluid game play at 1080p. ;) I guess there will be people out there that think likewise, but I will stick to my guns. :)

Linux already does UI scaling properly, but only if using the GNOME, KDE or Unity desktops.

And I am very certain Windows also does scaling properly.

A head's-up for peeps using the Killer 1202 adapter for wireless capability:

Qualcomm Atheros released new drivers together with their AC version of the hardware adapter. Take note that the wireless and Bluetooth portions of the suite are now available as separate downloads, and the only visible difference in the suite is the provision of a wireless network scanner in Killer Manager.

so have to download 32/64bit and bluetooth separately?

I asked about the desktop gaming PCs in early September and the answer was a couple of more weeks. ie. almost a month late now. :s22:

It will come. some delay since we want to do the launch with the 970 and 980 cards instead and want to offer more than 1 chassis option :).

I'm not getting great experience on the intel AC 7260 with 16.6.0.8 drivers that you preinstalled with Windows 8.1. In connections with my ubiquiti UAP-AC, I experience intermittent disconnections, very high (1000+ms) latency, or it doesn't switch from 5GHz to 2.4GHz properly when there is no longer a connection.

So I'm thinking of updating the drivers to see if things improve. Is there any version that you would recommend to try or to avoid? I think the latest generic version is 17.1.0.19.

Hey Salmonella,

Could you pm me your router model? I'll get the most stable drivers for you, but theres also the option of going for killer wireless if you prefer. Drop me a PM and we'll assist.
