gk in jan seems too much of a gamble to just throw into the first team immediately and expect him to stabilize a very shaky back 3/4/5. no good first team keeper will make a move in jan anyway, wait until summer for more and better options.

forget about getting a dm, BR never believed in one and never signed 1 in 5 transfer windows and no, emre doesn't count.

120m spent, owners not swimming in oil, not looking likely there will be any sort of spending above 5m for jan. probably need to depend on selling to buy so all the berahino and big purchases rumors just bs.

besides funds will need to be reserved for the new manager.

Don't understand why we are looking at more attacking option when what we need is a defensive solution. A proper DM is needed and just look at Lucas, if I'm not worng, we are 10 games unbeaten whenever he play and he's not even a proper DM to begin with!

Somewhat of a good news that Glen is going to Roma and hopefully his playing time with us is down to 0 or close to it. Won't be surprised if Rodgers still insist on forcing Gerrard into the team. :s22:

As for the committee, that's include Rodgers, our purchase this season has been good. It's how Rodgers tend to rely on names player (Johnson, Gerrard) like a small time manager, hoping they'll turn in a class performance.

Im more concerned about squad management. We are overloaded with strikers. Quality ones albeit injured and out of form. Do we need to buy another one? No. Especially with the current system br is deploying. Dont think he will see the need to splash more cash on an area of the squad that is covered for now.

Im being pragmatic and realistic here as well. The club dont just sign a striker because our current strikers are of quality but just unfit and off form.
Add that to the small matter of having to offload 1 or 2 of the current strikers
And also ffp. And even if we do look at buying. who is available annd the value Its not as simplistic as lets buy and we buy we get he comes he solves the problem.

Jerking the knee dont necessarily mean taking a step forward.

I still feel we just need to work with what we have..they are adequate. Have some faith. At least the performance is improving. New signings are settling. Last thing we want is another panic buy for a position we are well covered and br goes into tinker mode all over again.

Squad management is a separate issue.
Mario is far from quality to be honest. Exciting, yes, in love with the idea that he is a mad genius yes. But no output thus far. If he comes good its a bonus.

Had we not scored 4 past swansea, everyone will be crying for blood and a new striker.
I see it as it is. None of our strikers can be relied on thus far. The fact that 3 strikers were on the bench against swansea and sterling led our attack is testament to this. Im not even going to include sturridge in because we have no idea when he will get injured again.

Can anyone remember the times when we started with 32 year old Rickie Lambert upfront? Jeezus..

And honestly, everytime someone says we need a new striker or midfielder out comes the FFP, Jan market argument etc etc. Im just a fan and i feel that we need a top striker. How or whether the management does it is really another thing.

The thing about knee jerks is that they only apply when concerns are not valid. All of our strikers not functioning is quite valid imho.

I agree. We need a new GK and a DM. Mignolet cant play in Rodgers system. And Gerrard doesnt track enough to play DM.

Whether it's up to dof, tc or manager calling the shorts what matters is how good the person (s) are.

Ayre is not a football man but involved in identifying players. Purslow also wasnt a football man but was interfering in football Mayer's. Didn't work out well either.

Brendan Rodgers warns Arsenal, Chelsea, Man Utd and City of Liverpool's top four charge

BRENDAN RODGERS has warned Liverpool’s top-four rivals they are only going to get better.

The Reds moved to five points off the Champions League places with a 4-1 win over Swansea on Monday night.

They are starting to click after a disappointing first half of the season heading into tomorrow’s clash with lowly Leicester at Anfield.

Rodgers has chopped and changed his formations all season, but now seems to have got it right with a 3-4-3 system that sees Raheem Sterling leading the line.

And after bringing in eight summer signings, Rodgers believes the improvement will only continue as those players adapt.

He said: “We know when we play our way, when we work in how we play and train, we can have a very exciting second half to the season.

“Every game is different. Leicester will make it difficult for us, it will be condensed a little bit more, so we will have to find a different solution.

“It takes times for new players, but it is unfortunate in the modern game with the analysis of modern players now.

“Think back years ago, it was never the case, players were given time, but now they are getting judged after one or two games, and that's unfortunate.

“Imagine a player from this country going abroad and trying to adapt to a new life, a new culture, it takes months not a few games.”

Liverpool ran Manchester City close in last season’s Premier League title race and only the reigning champions and Chelsea have accumulated more points in 2014 than the Reds.

Rodgers said: “As a year it's been another year of progress – the end of the year hasn't been as good as we want but over the course of 2014 we have made significant strides forward in terms of what we are trying to do at the club.

“We are third in behind Manchester City and Chelsea – who are on 88 points - over the calendar year, and we are third in behind them (76 points).

“I’m pleased with that, but we still have a lot work to do.”

With the transfer window opening tomorrow there has been much speculation that Liverpool will dip in to buy a striker.

But the Kop boss has all but ruled out any signings over the next month.

He added: “There won't be much activity in January – we've brought in a lot of players in the summer who are beginning to adapt to life and a way of working at Liverpool.

“January won't be busy, my job is to coach and manage the players who are here, and make the most of their talent.

“If there is something available, then the beauty is our owners will always back what we want to do, if we feel we can improve us over the short term or long term.

“But I am happy with the players we have.

“I don't want to stockpile players here, so unless there is going to be someone who can significantly improve the group, then we have some fine young talent.”

Rodgers outlines January strategy

Brendan Rodgers today explained why he is likely to keep faith with the talent at his disposal in the Liverpool squad rather than invest in the transfer market during the January window.

The Reds head into 2015 in eighth position in the Barclays Premier League following a hard-fought 1-0 win at Burnley and impressive 4-1 victory over Swansea City in the festive period so far.

On the horizon for Rodgers' charges too is a two-legged Capital One Cup semi-final against Chelsea, an FA Cup tie at AFC Wimbledon and a Europa League contest with Beşiktaş.

As he previewed their opening fixture of the new year today, a home clash with Leicester City, the manager was quizzed on whether he intends to recruit additions to his squad next month.

"My first look is always within," he responded. "We have seen how we have adapted the team and the structure of the team in order to make that work. I still think we've got players that can do that for us.

"So there won't be much activity for us in January. We brought in a lot of players over the course of the summer that we feel can develop, and those players are now starting to adapt to the life here at Liverpool and our way of working.

"There won't be a lot of transfer activity from us - if any - over the course of the January period. My job is to coach and manage the players that are currently here and work hard at maximising the talent that they have. That's what we'll look to do."

Rodgers continued: "I don't think it's a good time to spend. If you look at last year, we never brought anyone in. My job is to coach the players we've brought in, to manage them.

"If there is something that's available, the beauty of our owners here is that they will always back what it is we want to do. If there was something there that we felt would improve us for the short-term and longer term, we would pretty much do that.

"But I'm happy with how the group is progressing. It has been a tough start to the season for us but I can see our game coming back, the work and the confidence all returning to the team.

"Unless it was something that was going to significantly improve us, I don't want to stockpile players here. We have got some outstanding young talents out on loan.

"We sent young Jordon Ibe out for experience and he's having a wonderful season at Derby. We've got other young players like Andre Wisdom out working really well.

"My focus will always be on what we've got from within, in terms of our young talent and other players. If there's something that's available that can improve us, I would take that to the owners and we would look at it from there."
