Hahas.. First world problems..
I
Anyway, hard wiring can be done discreetly and in minimal dust.. All u need to do is to engage a decent contractor and yes, it will be a few hundred dollars for big houses like you.

But the price is worth since such cables can last for at least maybe 5yrs or more..

Wireless extender works but if u intend to do heavy torrenting and gaming, it is confirm not gonna be a gd experience.

I overcome all problems when i finally laid the cables..

Maybe u wanna consider 200mbps plan instead of 500. 200mbps can uograde anytime while 500mbps cannot be downgraded during contractual period..
Indeed first world problems :(
I think i will stick with AC3200 (1st and 2nd lvl) + homeplugs (3rd lvl) then.

Already signed up the 500mbps, cannot change :(:(:(

For the Homeplug , you can PM Sineoji to do a site test before buying the plug.

Firmware Version : 3.0.0.4.378_4950

The Signature Version is stuck at 1.030. Was 1.008 after reset.

Got the following in the System Log :-
Apr 7 10:49:00 kernel: * Make sure sizeof(struct sw_struct)=160 is consistent
Apr 7 10:49:00 kernel: sizeof forward param = 160
Apr 7 10:49:13 kernel: Stop the IPS/AppID engine...
Apr 7 10:49:14 start_nat_rules: apply the nat_rules(/tmp/nat_rules_vlan10_vlan10)!

Not sure if they are related.

hi everyone need help here. I've just started using this router. I have some issues with 5GHz band wifi. I've seen quite alot discussions on 5ghz facing problems. I'm facing it too.

Problem:
Loading webpages and facebook comments loading are super slow. Even 2.4ghz is instant in loading. There is always drop in the 5GHz, it will auto disconnect and my phone end up connecting to 2.4ghz. However, tried speedtest, the speed was pretty alright, sometimes the speed is up and down.

Currently using Firmware Version:3.0.0.4.378_4608

is there anything i could do to solve this problem by changing 5GHz settings?

Should the channel bandwidth be set at 80mhz or 40 mhz?
What about control channel ?

Thank you

You can read up at least 20 pages away and will understand the setting and what doesnt work for now....

Welcome to the 87U ....

*Hint* - why never go AC3200 ....:(

Dear Jurong640,

Please update your firmware.

ASUS RT-AC87U Firmware version 3.0.0.4.378.4950
[Important] Because added the patch for 5GHz, please press and hold the reset button more
than 5 seconds to reset the router after firmware updated to avoid compatibility issue.

- Added workaround for iPhone6 wireless unstable issue.
- Fixed the denying intranet access issue in 5GHz guest network.
- Fixed the UI issue when switched to AP mode from media bridge mode.

Seems like you configured both 2.4 and 5Ghz to be using same SSID.
Try using different SSID for for both 2.4 and 5Ghz.

40mhz = N (300-450Mbps or 600 Max)
80mhz = AC (433-866Mbps-or higher??)

You can read up at least 20 pages away and will understand the setting and what doesnt work for now....

I have left the AC87U Club.
Whats wrong with the AC3200?

That temperature is actually normal:s12:. To prolong the lifespan of the router, I use a laptop cooler to bring it down to 69-70. :D

That's long 20 pages read. But still confused some still have problems. I didn't think of getting the Ac3200 as i have just signed up for M1 fibre. Actually was thinking to get Ac68U or 56S, but decided to get 87U at $160 top up

Sure will try, but by resetting, that means i need to configure all settings again? I'm still on 200mbps singnet fibre BB with mio.

Does the new firmware solve the slowness in the 5ghz frequency ?

my 2.4ghz was set at 20/40mhz. 5ghz was set at 80mhz. Do i need to change to control channel or i set it at auto ?

My router is also hot, but i used a laptop cooler to cool it down. where can i find the temp of the router? i can't find the place to search

ok. I've justed uodated to 4950 firmware and resetted the router and configured the router settings. Let see how it goes. So far i see so good.

On 5ghz speed, facebook comments load faster. Not like previously which takes very long to load.

Saw somewhere on this thread that says, Beamforming is affecting this. Where can i find this and off this ?

Wireless | Professional tab.
BF is off by default in the 4950 firmware.

nice ok thanks. anyway do you know what is this under internet status? the lease is counting down.

Lease time
2 hours

Lease expires
1 hours 31 minutes 42 seconds

So far i think there is problem with Note 4 wifi, it keeps dropping out of 5ghz band while my Tab S 8.4 and other devices remains at 5ghz.

In stock firmware you can't check the temp, you'll need to telnet into your router and run these commands:

For the Quantenna SoC: qcsapi_sockrpc get_temperature

For the Broadcom CPU: cat /proc/dmu/temperature

If you're using Merlin's fw, you can go to Tools to view the temp.

Is it the Internet Status on the Network Map?

http://event.asus.com/2012/nw/dummy_ui/en/index.html

Could be the DHCP lease timing.
