I registered for a 2nd port activation first as my contract wasn't up and my OpenNet appointment was set so it would coincide nicely with my contract termination date. Once everything set up from OpenNet, VQ came and activated the port from their end.

Once assured internet access, I went down to StarHub and returned them the accessories (they let me keep the Huawei modem, collecting dust). I can't recall clearly but I think StarHub has terminated the first port and that I can use that open port for a new ISP in the future...?

yes once the port is no longer in use, you can use it to connect to another ISP/OpCo

If it is websites that are currently being regulated by Authority(IDA,MDA)*Think Porn & gambling, then yes. Otherwise, no.:)

So I assume MDA regulated website will be blocked by all the ISPs in Singapore and some websites that are being blocked individually by specific ISP.

Called in on 09 Apr [This is also after 3 days of non-response after andrew sent my PM request in] to request for email written confirmation on when is my installation date.

The person who attended to my request said yes. 3 working days later still nothing.

Bad experience and little faith in your CS personnel now :s27:

Any service provider is in violation of their license if they do not comply to the list of websites that need to be blocked and can risk daily fines or loss of license.

Thanks andrew, that was quick. Your colleague Ben did a great service recovery, all ok now.

If you still require further assistance do PM any of the staffers here.

Sorry for not catching your PM earlier. Usually I am watchful but was not at home much this weekend.

just wondering, if using freedom VPN, can one access all sites?
IDA/MDA blocked sites still apply for Freedom VPN.

As mentioned by fibernet, ViewQwest has to comply with local regulations governing service providers. This applies to all VQ services including Freedom VPN.

No. They still need to comply with IDA on the banned sites.

Not only that, you need to understand that Freedom VPN only works on those sites the ISP (be in MR or VQ) listed. It will not work on any other form of geo locked filtering imposed by other sites not listed on those list.

As far as I know, SH or ST do not block more sites that others do not.
ST and especially SH are notorious for blocking some free (i.e. of questionable legality) streams of BPL/EPL/etc. during soccer season.

These sites are not part of the IDA/MDA blocked sites, they are just preventing a conflict with their biggest seller ;)

I find freedom VPN service is a little expensive at $10 per month since it is not a full fledged VPN service.

It is the most consistent streaming media VPN available especially since VQ is able to invest back into the upstream bandwidth required.

A dedicated VPN service will greatly impact the overall speed of your network and is really a very different service compared to a streaming VPN service such as Unotelly/VQ Freedom VPN/MR Teleport, etc.

Thus it's not really possible to compare the value between the 2 types of VPN service.

So how is it different from other streaming VPN like MR Teleport? Interested to know more.

Really bad service. Billing and service delivery

Hi, has the issue been resolved?

Called billing around at 10am today. Told them to reverse charges on my credit card and was told I will receive phone call and confirmation before 2pm.
3pm delivery dept called saying they do not have stock for microtik router and was sorry for the delay. they can't give a firm date when it will be available by.
I asked to be transferred to billing dept for billing issue.
Spoke to the same lady earlier and was told she can't give me an answer to reverse the order yet although she acknowledged that the services has not been delivery and amount charged is wrong. She was doing investigation on why a wrong amount has been charged expecting me to believe that's the reason for not calling me by 2pm as promised. after some haggling, giving her some information to aid her "investigation", she finally agreed to consult her management for reversing the charges and to call me back by 6pm.

Functionally it is the same as Teleport service, a special DNS is automatically sent to your router.

This DNS will redirect supported sites such as Netflix via VQ's dedicated connection to the US, etc. thus the sites will operate as if you are in the US, for example.

Where it differs from MR is whether VQ is able to provide a better, more stable dedicated pipe to the US, UK, etc. :)

Edit: In contrast to a dedicated VPN service e.g. Astrill, the benefit is that for all non-streaming stuff, you can still enjoy the full plan speeds of VQ; for dedicated VPN service, you have to disconnect the VPN to restore full speeds.

I agree with that too and has made a decision not to pay for it after the first three months of free service.
No problem :) we don't force the service on anyone - subscribers are welcome to sign up any third party VPN services and such.

As far as possible VQ will still do route optimization for these third party services, however beyond that it is hard to guarantee the same level of playback smoothness etc. especially if the VPN service you subscribed to has servers outside of Singapore.
