Not really - if he is keto adapted, then it will burn fats first then muscles

Anyway, we are not talking about starvation so the body shouldn't go into muscle burning at all

Personally, I am not so sure about the need to "raise" metabolism rate all the time...

I think it'll be really difficult to really ascertain if a person is in ketosis unless he/she uses ketone urine testing strips & most folks won't be bothered to do this. Also IIRC the max grams of carbs for someone to go into ketosis varies between 30 - 50, depending on the individual.

Re raising the metabolism through HIIT to burn fat & preserve lean muscle mass, this is a given:

https://www.t-nation.com/training/hierarchy-of-fat-loss

Personally, I don't think I would have gotten rid of 3.5 inches off my waist in 3 months if I didn't do my TRX/weights metabolic workouts. Just by LCHF/Paleo, probably much much longer & maybe even some muscle loss at the same time.

Heck, even right now month after month of resistance training, I'm finding it hard to preserve lean muscle mass as my testosterone levels are dropping in my late 50s...:s13:

Probably time to buy some good Indonesian Tongkat Ali to get the testosterone levels up again..:s13:

a heaping teaspoonful is around a one-tablespoon serving so careful not to overeat.

It's my 24 yr old daughter & 19 yr old son who take heaping teaspoons every day..:s13:
Me - once in probably 2 - 3 days or when I have a craving for it..:s13:

that includes bacon? no way :eek:

Well, once in a while should be OK & if you don't overcook it:

When it comes to bacon, try to avoid overcooking the bacon and cook at lower temperatures when possible. This will cut down on the formation of nitrosamines. Furthermore, cooking your bacon in the microwave is better than frying it.

http://www.livestrong.com/article/527581-sodium-nitrate-in-bacon/

I love bacon as well but I've stayed off it & other processed meat for years already... Nothing beats fresh meat in terms of nutrition & I don't wanna risk my health.

As before, I suggest people read www.dietdoctor.com/lchf

Bacon, while good, is not a complete food in itself

Do note that it is preserved with sugar and sodium nitrate so excessive consumption may not be all that good for us in the long run

I usually go for "chinese bacon" which is sliced pork belly - unsalted and I season them to my own preference :D

Most processed snacks have sugar in them - need to check the labels properly

There are some that don't use sugar :s13:

Actually urine ketones are notoriously inaccurate...hahah

But that aside, it is not THAT hard to get into ketosis - heck, even a sugar burner goes into ketosis when he sleeps cos our bodies still need to function and what happens when glucose runs out - yup, we start burning fats/ketones automatically...

Thinking that we have to exercise all the time to lose weight is outdated IMHO

Exercising does help but what we eat is even more important

I also don't buy the argument that we lose muscle mass very easily - why would our bodies give up something that is quite hard to gain in the first place?

Waiting for carey kor kor to step in, I think he just shared a link promoting bacon as healthy food

Sent from Sony D6653 using GAGT

I won't exactly call it a health food :s13:

But we should not fear bacon - if it's not heavily processed - you will know when you look at the ingredients list

Go for those sold at the deli versus those come packaged

Yes, there is some sugar in the making of bacon but it is part of the curing process and some studies show that the sugar is actually to feed the good bacteria so there is not much left to cause a huge spike in insulin

And we should learn to look at things in context as well

Some products I eat do contain sugar but if it's like less than 5% of the total, I am not too anal about it - especially if I am not going to take a large amount of it...hahah

Heh, my advice would be to stay clear of ALL processed meat...

You can get nice roasted pork knuckles at large Cold Storage & NTUC Finest outlets; around $25 only. Skin very crispy, much nicer than sio bak.
