Just do it!

It's not necessarily a case of which is better - travelling alone vs travelling with others.

Different experience..... All good.

Start small.... Start while you are here..... You don't do everything with someone else, right? There are things that you do alone? Shopping, watch movie, go museum, go cycling.... Different experience, different planning, logistics, etc..... Just extend that to travelling.....

all of u who travels alone are really brave.

I have a different agenda for doing solo travelling, but that's just me. Not about being brave, haha.

Solo travel is more than just travelling. If you are really scared, you can try going alone to places where you have been before (e.g. HK). If you like it, you can do so again next time for other countries. If you don't like it, can always go back to travelling with a group. :)

Hey guys, so intend to do my second solo trip in January but cant decide the destination yet. I did a solo trip to HK once and had quite a good experience. I'm considering destinations like Indonesia- so far bali is on my mind, as well as Vietnam- HCM. I like to travel on a budget (+-$500 total), and am looking around 4-5days of travel.

I quite liked the convenience of Hong Kong's train system, but i doubt with my budget i can go anywhere with a similarly efficient transport system (pls correct me if i'm wrong). I would generally prefer safer destinations, and destinations where January is a good time to visit- not too much rain, not too hot, etc. Oh and of course places with more English spoken the better.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advanced!

I can only think of malaysia. For thailand and indonesia, the ticket is already half of your budget.

I think so!

i am thinking about keeping the budget to about $4K,

SQ flight cost about S$1.2K, is it a good deal?

accomodation? probably looking at AirBnB and motels. as im a single traveller, i dont have anyone to share the costs. ~S$1K?

left about S$2K, for shopping, day trips, sightseeing, food and transportation etc.

also, i suppose london will be alright for a lone female traveller?

thank you!

Keep a little extra just in case you need the money. SQ fare seems like a good deal.

Accommodation wise (AirBnB) you should do more research to which areas you want to explore and which areas are safer than others. Make your decision based on this. Be it boy or girl, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Food wise, I would budget to about S$20-30 per meal. If you're a big eater you should cater more to the budget.

Do up an itinerary of what you plan to achieve during your stay there so you can effectively manage your expenses and then some extras to splurge on some days. Food and accommodation usually takes up the most of your expenses (after flight ticket).

seems that food at $20 to $30 a meal is not cheap.

You don't have to spend that much for meals unless you eat in restaurants every meal. You can buy a sandwhich for $10+. Still expensive, but not too bad.

If you are really on a budget, just go to a supermarket and buy a loaf of bread and some ham/pate/cheese, and make your own sandwhich. There's no shame in this. Afterall, you prepare your own food in Singapore, so there's nothing wrong with doing the same overseas.

But do eat in a decent/nice place once in a while.

i just tried my first solo. awesome.
stayed in hostel and met so many ppl from different countries.
also realised many ppl were traveling solo too.
so there's nothing to be afraid of really.
though i read somewhere one should not disclose that you're traveling alone in case you become a target.

i think most ppl travel to experience different things. not many is out to cause harm.

not sure where to go in mar/apr. probably 1-2 weeks. any suggestions?

no go
1) georgia - read somewhere that there's a festival on 28 jul, so that's when i'll be going

2) jordan/israel - travel buddy wants to go but is not available during this period, so i'll wait i guess. pretty expensive too, so it's great to have someone else to split the cost with.

short list

1) iceland/greenland - northern lights are dimming, but it's extremely expensive.

2) egypt - cheap, but kinda worried about the tourist vibes. so far, i've only had bad experiences at highly recommended tourist destinations.

3) nepal - seems cheap, but i'm not really sure what to do there except hiking and long solo hikes are pushing my limits a little too much.

other considerations: passport is expiring this year, so it might be a good time to go to a diplomatically-questionable country and then get a new one.

Armenia or Uzbekistan. Was intending to go to Israel too but put it on hold. There's some shooting and stabbings happening pretty frequently since late last year. Think there was another case last week or the week before. Probably not affecting the areas out of Tel Aviv and the Palestine.

When I go and stay for several days in relatively expensive countries (US/Europe) my standard approach is to go to supermarket, buy whole roasted chicken for $6, buy some greens, dressing/mayo and get freshly baked bread or rolls every morning. For $20 you can eat for three days.
