Our mitsubishi starmex split system 2 inverter aircon has been giving us power trips. An electrician came and said it's the compressor that needs to be replaced and quoted us $1500, which seems like a chop carrot price. How much is it typically to change the compressor?

URGENT: please recommend honest and good air-con service company

Hi mkaung2000,
Forumers here we discuss problems, give advise, share lobangs and share experiences.
If someone is good, by all means we use them if price is fair.
For the bad aircon guys, by the same token, forumers will give their experiences and we share.
Nothing wrong here to recommend someone and forumers are free to consider and not forced.

Yes, I think this thread is quite useful in terms of discussing the aircon servicing experience.

In my first post, I shared my experience with Maxicoolservices. I had a good experience and the price was quite reasonable. Unfortunately their appointments are full until March 2016.
(Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with them.)

I suspect that my aircon gas is leaking as I heard some hissing noise near the piping. Can anybody recommend any other honest and good service professionals if you have experience with them? I have been searching this forum for contacts. I will share my experience after the servicing.

Oh, I've got another question. When the guy installed, I noticed that he never cover up the pipes coming out from the outdoor unit. It's usually the one with the white cover that covers over the pipe on the outdoor unit. He says cannot cover because he connect 1 direction to MBR and another direction for the remaining 2 rooms.

Is this alright? Will there be a risk of leaks or other effects in the near future?

outdoor pipe no cover oso for my side.. fine till now... no worry...

Hi all,

Just wanted to share this for the benefit of comparison.

I have a pretty old Daikin aircon system with 3 units, probably 5+ y/o. It recently started behaving funny: aircons would switch on and off automatically, without any lights blinking or anything else. Just like in poltergeist )

I bought this system second hand from Hong Tar, so gave them a call to come check it out. The technician said the PCB in the condenser unit was faulty and charged SGD380 to replace it. Condenser unit is Daikin 3MKD75DVM. Works fine now. They also give you 3m warranty.

Hope this might be useful for someone.

if service monitor pcb faulty... cause oni $180 nia....

Therefore contacted Redcon.

Called them at 3pm and they arranged for 5pm. Arrived on time.

They found that there is a hole at the compressor discharge pipe. Welded back and top up gas and quoted $180. Price negotiated to $150.

Is it too expensive for a welding job and topping up gas? Anyway I have no choice, cant bear the heat at night. Overall the guys seems competent and experience. All done in 1 hour.

Hope it can last

Can try them.. find them at facebook

Any experts can help? I just got someone to come down and service my aircons. These aircons are slightly over an year old and only my master bedroom aircon is used every night. But after the servicing, I hear some vibrating noise from the mbr aircon. I called the guy but he insisted that this is because it needs chemical washing. When his guys were here, one of them also said that that aircon needs chemical washing.

I am very sure that the vibrating sound was not there before the servicing as I am a light sleeper, and sleep every night with the air con on. Surely I can tell if there is a vibrating sound after the servicing. But the guy insisted that it was vibrating due to a need for chemical wash.

Can I check if this is one of those tactics used by aircon servicemen to get people to do other services such as chemical washing, ie purposely cause the aircon to have some vibration sound? I was prepared to get them to do a chemical washing the following week if there are no problems, but looks like I will need to find someone else.

1) The noise can be from the casing not being mount back properly.
2) The fan motor getting a bit wear off.
3) the blower is dirty this 1 need chemical wash.
4) the fin is stuck with dirt so got the so called seaside sound.

Not sure what type of sound u are experiencing.

I am not active in forum.
Got question can contact me at 96457233.

I got a issue with my room air con. The wind blowing out seems to be weak as compared to other rooms. I had chemical wash done about 2 months the back. The guy didn't remove the whole coil down to spray, all was done with the unit still on the wall. I questioned the guy why he didn't remove the whole unit, he me tinned if remove too often, it will spoil the piping. I just listened to him, paid and done deal. 3 months later, the wind blowing out was weak. I called for normal servicing. I asked him to check if the blower or anything was dirty causing the weak wind. He couldn't find anything dirty or faulty.
Any idea??

Is it true that aircon COMPRESSOR, if doing chemical washing, must now be totally removed and brought indoors to clean ? Is this apply to HDB only ? What about condos ?

My air con man told me that this is the rule and must pay additional charges due to this rule.

WHAT THE HECK U MEAN BY AIRCOND COMPRESSOR DOING CHEMICAL OVERHAUL? COMPRESSOR ARE ONE OF THE OUTDOOR UNIT PART THAT UNWASHABLE... FUNNY:s13::s13:
MAYBE THEY MEAN BY OUTDOOR UNIT THE DIRTY COIL THAT NEED TO BE WASH... IF U WANT TO WASH THE OUTDOOR UNIT.. WAIT FOR THE RAIN OR TOLD NEIGHBOR BELOW TO CLOSE THE WINDOW...

Ya I also confused. I also never heard of chemical wash compressor till this latest servicing. My air con is four years old and I service every six months.

Guess they mean they take out the whole compressor to clean inside ? Got such thing ? I also wait for rain to clean the compressor by spraying on it but I don't think this will reach the inside to clean the fans ? At most the outside grill ?

One of the aircon servicemen recommended here; Ah Yi, actually climbed out of my flat window, stand on the air con compressor bracket, use some chemical plus water hose (connected to the toilet tap), cleaned the compressor thoroughly. I was very impressed by how he did it!:eek::eek: and that really turned my aircon cold again! :s12:
