Omg.. another one bit the dust! I believe the whole batch of 505 is affected. Well played LG! Probably they are trying to get us to upgrade to V10? :s13: :s8:

imo, android after jellybean/kitkat already became more or less as good as it can get already, all the 'newer' android versions just change a bit here and there only and average consumer dont feel the difference. Like how MM has 'official' fingerprint reading support but even the phones before MM already had fingerprint readers, Samsung, etc didnt even need to wait for google to support it.

For current samsung, no microSD bothers me more than no removable battery so samsung is still off my list of potential future devices (also dont like the fragility of their glass body). The G5 intrigues me cos it may be a smaller screen which I prefer compared to 5.5 inch but I still want to see what else LG is doing with it first.

I think at least for now, LG seems to still care about practicality unlike samsung which went full on aesthetic-focus and made their product look more stylish at the expense of battery and microSD.

true, i quite like kitkat version maybe due to the dark theme  somehow i feel google didn't improve android very much over the years. it did improve but somehow from kitkat to lollipop, i don't feel any significant impact :s22:

yup the microsd card is super useful, all the photos and songs can be transferred easily fr one phone to another :o i like removable battery lol, don't like to bring pb out, too heavy le. that's why i am waiting for g5 and hope it doesn't give up on removable battery!! pls pls lg, don't take that away~

now cant power up le T____________________________T

*when is lg addressing this issue officially

Thermal-wise my G4 has been worse ever since coming back from the service centre, where doing web browsing for long sessions i can now hit 40 celsius, when its previously unheard of.

I still dont know if that's something to do with LG's MM, but my phone is physically hotter than it used to run, so what I'm saying is, if heat really was the cause of death, it's an even higher risk now since temps are higher.

I can understand the sucky feeling to have had a major repair done on a device and only to find out that its performing worst than before. Well, you can always bring it back to LG and have them look at it again or perhaps, consider downgrading back to lollipop.

I also understand what you are saying, if heat really is the cause won't it have a greater chance of a relapse? Perhaps, if it is indeed the cause. Only time will tell. As mentioned, in my previous posts these are some of the theories that the devs have discussed. But at the same time, can you positively say with 100% certainty, that heat is not the cause or your phone won't go kaput again 6 months down the road?

Look at current situation, they probably are aware by now of the 505 issue. No recall notice, no PSA to warn users (even sony warns users about overheating on 810 when recording 4k video).

The only ones that do fast updates are those like nexus devices or maybe xiaomi's miui. Companies like Samsung, LG etc, prepare to wait months, assuming they even want to still support your device. It's no secret that companies can drag these type of issues out unless somebody's 505 motherboard explodes or has some safety hazard. Anything else, the 'worst' that could happen is customer being upset.

Again I have to point out that this 505 issue isnt even severe enough to get the attention of tech journalism sites like our very own hardwarezone, thats how low key and how insignificant our 'big problem' is if you widen your perspective. What kind of financial and reputation loss can they possibly sustain.

Btw, "probably" is a understatement. They are aware of the 505 issue. Just keeping tight-lipped about it. Imagine if they declare that all 505-509 are doomed to fail won't it cause a chain of panic reaction worldwide? They are charging $375+/- per board don't you think if you multiply that by the many worldwide failure cases it will amount to a business loss? Even say hypothetically speaking, if the cost of the board is $100 it will still amount to a loss. Not to mention, the man hours wasted in sending mobos back, getting new ones/repaired ones back in to Spore then swapping them here locally etc. isn't that not a loss? Does that not all cost money? As for the reputation getting tarnished no matter how big, small or mediocre a company is it does not help them in any way if they get a little or a lot of bad press. It's bad press, no one likes bad press. Do you? Different companies have different culture, people, way of doing things and reasons for doing it. From a business point of view, unfortunately, this is how some companies operate. The ruthlessness and all. So don't let frustration distort your mind into thinking that there will be no financial or reputation loss for LG. You are pissed, your phone is worse than before hasn't LGs reputation suffered in your eyes?

And I will have to disagree with regards to your statement about samsung. In my opinion, they are a better company versus LG in terms of service standards and business ethics any time. Samsung phones have had a share of problems too and more prominently, the Sudden-Death-Syndrome (SDS). The S3 was a victim of SDS so was the Note 2. Something that you may not know Samsung did acknowledged the issue and assured customers that they were working on a fix. You may wish to Google on that. My Note 2 died of SDS too and it was 1 week+ after warranty. They acknowledge the problem at the service centre and changed the mobo for me FOC. My S5 had reception problems and it was rooted, I unrooted it and went to the service centre but the bloody KNOX gave it away. I appealed and they repaired for me under warranty for a one time instance, and voiding the rest of the warranty (1 month+ balance).

Once again let me emphasize different companies, different ethics and styles. As for why hasn't some sites picked-up on the G4 issues as of yet well, could the great advertising dollar may have something to do with it? Have you not seen beaming LG ads on HWZ? Would you want to chop the very hand that feeds you? If LG themselves acknowledges it then perhaps, it may become "breaking news" for journalism sites but until then, you will just find more disgruntled customers all around. We are all G4 users whom bought this phone with high hopes and expectations. Frankly, I still like this phone very much for all its bells-&-whistles but I can't say the same for the the LG brand now, anymore.

Lastly, thank-you for suggesting to me to widen my perspective. I would like to assure you that it is. Much more than your own. Cheers!

Are you implying LG's 'advertising dollar' is causing sites like android authority, phone arena, etc to keep silent on the issue? What, you thought my eyes only look at HWZ?

I see 50+ people with dead motherboards.

I also see business as usual on LG's side. The V10 goes on sale as normal, the company hasnt been delisted off the stock exchange the way HTC has. I dont see any scandal reported in the mass media, like toshiba and their finances, or Lenovo and superfish. We dont even get a 'rumour' that their mobile division has a 1 year ultimatum to turn profitable or get sold off like Sony. We got nothing.

I wasnt a iphone owner but I knew about bendgate. And so did all my non iphone owner friends.

Ask yourself, if you're not a G4 owner, if you didnt suffer this problem firsthand and then visit this exact forum thread or start to have to google for the symptoms to see if others experienced the same thing, would you even have known that this problem exist?

Thanks for sharing your testimonial. I feel so much more confident about Samsung after hearing only 1 guy's opinion. Maybe I should consider the S7 since you have given me your assurance that Samsung's service standard won't let me down.

EDIT: eh cannot lah, I said before "dont be too quick to judge". If i judge samsung service as so good based on just 1 guy's opinion, somebody might accuse me of hypocrisy

Time to bring to the service centre.

Tell them about the motherboard failure, also ask them about the current stock of the motherboard so you know if they're ok or under shortage. It could mean the difference between waiting a week or two more.

i like removable battery lol, don't like to bring pb out, too heavy le. that's why i am waiting for g5 and hope it doesn't give up on removable battery!! pls pls lg, don't take that away~

haha if you need powerbank, the problem is not that the phone's battery isnt removable, the problem is that the phone's battery capacity is too small!

I dont see the battery being removable as a excuse to make the capacity 'small' just because you can 'pop in a fresh battery anytime'. The less extra 'things' you need to carry (battery, powerbank etc) the better.

To me the removable battery is more like vital for replacement because battery eventually will deteriorate in capacity due to the natual lifespan of the charging cycles, and being removable means you can replace with brand new battery to restore the battery life to the original top condition. Sadly phones these days are not treated as long term devices. By the time your battery wear is that big of a deal, you may already have gotten an entirely new phone altogether. I guess thats also why microSD is more important to me than removable battery.

Now I wonder what that redmi 3 must feel like... that 4100 mAh sounds amazing (i wish it were the 'norm' instead of 'amazing')

a sad way to look at it is, LG is so unpopular in Singapore that no one gives a **** about this mobo scandal. when G3 had the cracks no one cared also.

but move to a major brand like Apple or Samsung, any issue gets blown out of proportion. #bendgate is low probability and doesn't really happen under normal usage. but because it's Apple, EVERYONE talks about it.

not saying anyone here has a worse opinion, but I find that because no one gives 2 shits about this 505 batch issue or whatever, it only further shows how insignificant LG is... all over the world?

EDIT: Also I think you guys have to realize that sites like Android Authority etc only review the phone and never touch it again, unless it's the PocketNow After The Buzz series. no review sites give a **** about upcoming firmware updates, hence thats why you don't see any of them talking about Sony's camera app's new UI or anything like that.

this mobo bootloop should only happen under daily use for a period of time. i doubt it will bootloop in that one week the reviewers use them for write-ups/video.

this could also be why the V10 was announced so quickly.. May 2015 for G4, and then around Sept 2015 for V10 during IFA or something. maybe they already knew the G4 is gonna be hopeless

Its a smartphone, it was automatically hopeless 6* months after release :p

*4-5 months if you're a Sony Xperia because of how fast they release new stuff.

The world is a lot more impatient than it used to be. Smartphones and their OS are pressured to have new versions faster and faster. Look at the announcement of LG past gen phones, from Aug (G2) to May (G3) to Apr (G4) and now people saying Feb for G5 at MWC. The window is shrinking, my friend even joked that we're going to see the G10 announced before the G9 (hey didnt microsoft do that? They went from Win8.1 to Win10!).

I guess when something starts to feel so 'expendable', there is less motivation to support it because it turns old so fast. Even apple would rather you buy new phone http://www.cheatsheet.com/gear-style/is-apple-taking-its-ads-on-the-iphone-too-far.html/?a=viewall

Bendgate at least gave us stronger aluminium in the next gen iPhones.

If we're lucky, 505gate will give us proper working motherboards in the G5

you're correct. technology is crazy fast these days. guess my deduction of the V10 release was a little biased :p

well they give you good mobo for G5.. who knows what else they might do? case in point: bendgate solved for 6S, yet with that comes #chipgate :s13:

Aiyo don't quarrel in this thread can?

Then when I ask legit questions then no one answer.

For some of the arguments here:
http://brandinginasia.com/samsung-cancer-workers/

I think 509 batch is not affected.

They warned that the camera will overheat after shooting in UHD-1, at least on my phone.

Not sure whether they tried to cover the news but it's all over the net. If you didn't do research on your phone before buying it, then...

The spare battery is a good feature for me and my phone has not died as of now so not gonna complain.

Just walk in to their service centre and press Mobile Service at the queue monitor to get a queue ticket.

No need appointment just walk in get queue number. The service counters are at the right of the main counter and the larger area to the left is the collection counter

Yes certain sites who rely too much on advertising to sustain don't usually bad mouth their advertisers unless, the issue is addressed by the company itself. On the other hand, certain review sites rarely touch on issues pertaining to post-related device problems. The G4 mobo issue may perhaps, be highlighted on these sites when they do a review of the G5. So do keep your eyes peeled.

Whoa, whoa, whoa... relax bro. Scandal, delisting etc.. Your moving at warp speed now. Surely, you don't expect a company to just pack-up, lock-up get delisted and leave cos of a G4 motherboard issue now do you? It takes time for a company to get to that stage and for its reputation to go in the drain which may I add, LG seems to be doing a pretty good job at.

Anyway, if its any indication a good article link provided by bro tuckloong and a short excerpt from it (http://www.koreatimes.co.kr/www/news...33_195554.html) -

"The strategy shift comes after LG Electronics' mobile chief, Cho Juno, who is a de facto chief executive of the company, faces questions about his management ability after the mobile business' continued dismal performance.

LG Electronics released its previous flagship handset, the G4, at the end of last April.

While LG's management had confirmed that the G4 was selling well, market analysts estimated that so far it has underperformed the G3 by more than half.

LG's vision for recovery is through focusing on high-end devices, such as the new V10. But with two major high-end models launched a year, sales of the V10 have not been impressive.

"Considering the competitive landscape and LG Electronics' weak brand power in the field, we do not believe this is the road to success for LG Electronics and believe the company's handset business could well face continued or even increased pressure," said Bernstein Research's Mark C. Newman." "

Thanks for sharing your testimonial. I feel so much more confident about Samsung after hearing only 1 guy's opinion. Maybe I should consider the S7 since you have given me your assurance that Samsung's service standard won't let me down.

Oh yes, you're most welcome. And no please, don't just go by 1 guy's opinion let Google be your guiding light to many many opinions. Also, please don't limit yourself to just S7 or G5 and what not. Keep your horizons open. Cool?

EDIT: eh cannot lah, I said before "dont be too quick to judge". If i judge samsung service as so good based on just 1 guy's opinion, somebody might accuse me of hypocrisy

Eh... you still angry ah? Don lie tat leh?? Flen flen lah? I neber call u a hypocrite mah? You branding yourself only ba.. =:p

Once again, let Google be your guiding light and don't just go for a single opinion.. go for many...

Getting back my phone this week. So to sum it all up, there might be a chance where the replacer mobo will breakdown again right?

Sent from Xiaomi REDMI NOTE 2 using GAGT

Seriously, no one really knows for a fact what is going to happen. LG is not acknowledging if there is a fix let alone, the issue itself.

My advice to you, don't keep your hopes too low nor too high until we know for a fact that the issue has been fixed, for good. Perhaps, during collection you may wish to ask them why the mobo failed, its cause and if its a permanent fix. Though, I doubt they will give you a straight answer but you never know.. Wish you well.
