Haha, I didn't say so, you said so though! Haha....

Now distributing them (folks coming to pick up from my gf home) as soon as I can if not I'll be back in SG mid March... Not sure if the SST or El Niño follow up will throw haze before I'm back in SG...

I am looking for a quiet air purifier. Which is the recommended one? Samsung AX40 or Xiao Mi Air purifier 2?

why would they stop production?

Taking it with a pinch of salt, since they just released ver2 recently doubt they would stop production.

Also the person told me the ap only 3 months warranty, anything after that need to buy new set.
Sian half, wonder is it possible to send it back myself or got local shop to service.

fearmongering always works :p

Don't see what'll they gain from lying to me, since they don't carry it.

Probably their own supplier side stopped supplying?
Anyway, good to know it's unfounded.

i can't say i know what's their internal decisions... however in my line of insurance work as an agent, there are many agents who are lazy and would rather stop inquiries into claims by saying "cannot".

AX40 is the quieter one. However, IMO, it is only usable in one speed, the HIGH speed which is about 320 m3/hr airflow.
At this speed, if you put it at least 2m away from your head in the bedroom, I'd believe 80% of the light sleepers would find it alright, which would sound like ard. the Turbo fan speed of an aircon FCU. The remaining 20% super duper sensitive folks, pls wear earplugs to sleep.

XM2 can go more silent, but the airflow would be drastically down, eg 3X lower. At the same airflow vol, the AX40 would still be very significantly quieter. What they can do is to utilise 2 or even 3 units in the room, or choose other units which can go medium speed and use 2 units.

So in a way, if you'd spec the AX40 correctly, eg using it in a MBR or living room, it'd be just nice. Power consumption is also great, at about 27W.

Thanks for the detailed explanation. I think I will go with XM2 because I can control the air purifier over the Internet.

Anyone has any advice to buying those smog sucking hood above the cooking hob?

Cooking at home is a major reason why housewives who cook and don't smoke get lung cancer.

I think the filtration system in hood dont really remove grease and polluted air. Unless yours is like those commerical restuarant which have hoods exhaust air to the outside.

HDB ones recirculate the “dirty” air back. the circular black colored AC absorb the smell whilst the metal mesh is said to absorb the grease and “cleanse” the air.

Now I told my maid to open windows and ban my 2 young kids from going into the kitchen if she is cooking. think long term damage will be similar to haze from indonesia.

I am thinking maybe can place my two AX40 inside the kitchen when cooking,,,but the filter life span will shortened very quickly...

I measured the FU-A28 Filter is 310x285x25. I'll be making some purchases for this filter soon. Anyone want to tag along?

I also have replacement filters for AX40: 310x281x45 @ $42 and Osim iLife: 317x256x20 @$40. PM me if interested. Thanks.
Hi, do you know where to get Osim ifresh filter? Its a very old model. But my machine very new hardly use. Its been more than 10 yrs. I open up the cover... looks like need to change filter. Osim says then don't carry anymore. If can't find... it becomes an elephant :-(

Don't take the above numbers as absolute since there is always a margin of error, but as a frame of reference. (vs mindgamey's or seshuan's wattage and dB numbers)

Eg above mentioned XM1 as 82.1W in jet, but seshuan measured 73W. Official = 75W

The slight drop from XM1's CADR 406 jet down to XM2's CADR 388 jet (or 330 std high) is probably more than acceptable for 99.9% of the folks out there.

But it seems that it's doing ~50W for 388 m3/hr. 31W is for 330 m3/hr.
Bottleneck at the filter or fan end but understandable for such a smaller unit.

Samsung AX40 is 35cm x 20cm x 48cm = 33600 cm3 (700 cm2 footprint)。 Single useful speed as High, 323 m3/hr CADR @ 27W
XM2 is 24x24x52cm = 29952cm3 (576 cm2 footprint) CADR 388 @ ~ 50W or CADR 330 @ 31W
XM1 is 26x26x73.5 = 49686cm3 (676cm2 footprint) CADR 406 @ 75W or CADR 271 @ 30W.

MFresh M8088A is a bit too large to be directly compared. :s13: (33cm dia x 71.5cm = 62k cm3). But it does give CADR 326 m3/hr @ 27W and is maybe 0.5 to 1dB more silent than the AX40 @ 323 m3/r @ 27W.
Of coz it is capable of 45W @ CADR 520 as well, or maxes out at CADR 580 @ 70W

The AX40 and M8088A @ 300+ m3/hr range run dB numbers noticeably lower than XM1, and possibly XM2. The dB noise figure at operating speed is crucial for those light sleepers, and from what I learnt in 2015 Haze season in this and the 2015El Nino/Haze thread, there are quite a fair number of these folks.

This low 300+ m3/hr range provides an excellent ACH number about 7-8 ACH in a typical BTO MBR + typical furnitures, which will be useful for people in the Sensitive Group. Deployed in a BTO bedroom which is even smaller = 没马跑。

MFresh and the XMs have remote control wifi/cloud function, very useful during hazy months so that you can control before you reach home or set some on/off timing. Normal days, not so useful.
Hi WussRedXLi,

I am new to this thread as I am also looking for a air purifier. After reading all the threads, I gathered that knowing the calculation is essentially the factor to determine which model to buy. Unfortunately, i am damn bad at numbers. Can you please advice your statement

"This low 300+ m3/hr range provides an excellent ACH number about 7-8 ACH"

How do you determine that airflow above (i assume is the same term as CADR) will provide the stated ACH ( i assume the higher the better)

My hood has a charcoal beads filter think.

The problem is the suction power seems quick weak, don't know whether is it really effective
