i only ran a single strand of translucent single mode fibre pre-termimated in LC connectors so i bought a matching set of bidirectional 10KM single mode optic. I bought the cheapest optic i can find with decent sale volume and reviews, that's how I usually shop on taobao. my switch doesn't hard block uncertified optics so no need care about what switch.

for the normal 10GBASE-LX/10GBASE-SR optics, you need a pair of SM/MM fibre respectively.

for connectors (10G/25G) just stick to LC. MPT/MPO if you're pulling a trunk cable that you intend to break out using cassettes.

So you ran translucent fibre cable by yourself. Nice.

I am selling the idea of laying transparent/translucent Fibre cables to my wife and she seems to like the idea. And she even claims that she can help laying the transparent/translucent Fibre cables since she is usally much better than I when it comes to delicate works. Let's see how it goes (not so soon, still studying).

if u are getting the 4x2.5G + 10Gbe + sfp+
technically you can skip the copper sfp+. you already have a 10Gbe copper on the switch. Unless you need two.
spf+ port, get optics.. more fun to play and learn and none of the heat/power issues. not to mention much cheaper too

I am buying the cheaper ones with 4x2.5G with dual sfp+ ports.

I still need to buy SFP+ copper modules though -- I do not have a proper desktop now and I need to use my Mac Mini M1 + 10GBASE-T Thunderbolt 3/4 to 10 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.

just to poison you further.. it seems in the last few weeks
8 port spf+ with L3 management is going for less than 100.. same usual sellers as those 2.5G switches
seems to be based on new realtek silicon as well..
nb.. ownself poison ownself ...lol

then get the one with copper 10Gbe on the switch. it's a better deal. sure work and definitely cooler than using a coper sfp+. not mention much cheaper too. that copper spf+ can actually get you another switch.

get the dual sfp+ ones only if you intent to use with dac

at 100 a pop. i think no brainer. plus the engineering is all from realtek.
only thing i will look out for is to buy one that has a track record of providing fw updates. looking at hasivo 8 port sfp+ as we speak... but i have too much gear already .. imagine wifie's face when she realise i just got another toy

I was actually looking at MikroTik switches, but then I will try cheaper options first to see how it goes.

The paticular model I was looking at is CRS310-8G+2S+IN, at US$219 listed (more expensive here, but probably a bit cheaper from Taobao than from Singapore online stores). It has 8 x 2.5G Ethernet ports and 2 SFP+ ports, and runs RouterOS v7.

was looking at the same thing months ago. finally got a 8x2.5G + 1 sfp+ realtek based/china switch.
no regrets. vlans and simple port controls all works without a hitch. stable. only question maybe longevity over the long term. but heck at i think 50-60 .. spoil buy another one.

For 10G SFP+ within the same rack usually people just use a DAC cable right? Buying a fibre transceiver and connecting with OM4 cables seems a bit excessive. Planning my new home network and very thankful for all these information here!

inter-rack I'll just use DAC, although there's nothing stopping you from using the same types of fibre optic cable + transceivers for uniformity of infrastructure.

ya that's the one i'm looking at. it's either this or the usw-aggregation, but I don't really want to buy unifi switching gear...

CRS305 is the switch that introduced me to MikroTik and SwOS, CRS309 is the switch that taught me ROS and got me started on CHR, and CRS312 (x2) is the switch that eventually I built my homelab. (y)
