just back from ICT recently and got clarification with regards to MR eligibility.

As everyone knows you need 7 HK ICT and 10NS years.
Some definitions:
1. HK ICT is 7 Days or more.
2. SAF work year is from 1 April to 31Mar (the following year)
3. NS years = any call up in a SAF work year other than Medical, IPPT, RT or the program which you join to replace RT.
4. 2 HK ICT within 1 SAF work year is considered 1 HK ICT, unless the 2nd one is listed as MUT, then it is considered as 2 HK ICT.

Example 1:
1. 2 days training. 13/9/2012 to 14/9/2012
2. 6 days training. 1/10/2012 to 6/10/2012
= 1 low key ICT, 1 NS year.

Example 2:
1. 12 days Annual ICT. 1/10/2012 to 12/10/2012
2. 12 day MUT = Make up Training. 1/12/2012 to 12/12/2012
= 2 HK ICT. 1 NS year.

Example 3:
1. 12 days Annual ICT. 1/10/2012 to 12/10/2012
2. 12 day Annual ICT. 1/12/2012 to 12/12/2012
= 1 HK ICT. 1 NS year.

Example 4:
1. 0.5 Days briefing/seminar/mobilization. 1/10/2012
= 1 NS year.

hope this make it quite clear with regards on how to attain MR eligibility.
This was what i was told during my last ICT and i have just received my watch. waiting for MR letter now.

so if you have done 7 HK ICT and then 3X0.5day briefing, in all separate SAF work years, you will be also eligible for MR.
NS Years is not counted from the time you 1st started your 1st call up, but the activity you clock in a SAF work year.

also with regards to the 3k into the CPF at the 10th year, you must have the 7 HK ICT and 10NS years before the money can be credited. if you go to EX NS, ie hit 40years for WO/Spec/other rank, before you meet the 7 HK and10 NS years, then you will not get the money.

one last point is that, they redefined the 10NS years recently. before March2011 it was calculated from the time you were 1st called up. Now it what i have mentioned above. This is to make it more fair for those who have not deferred.

Thanks for your informative input!!

1 more question: Let say you finish your final last & 10th cycle ICT in sept 2012, so when do we official MRed??

-is it immediately after your last ICT ?
-or after you you have received you MR letter ?
-or wait till the end of SAF work year, ie 31Mar2013 then MR ??

This is important, because we can immediately siam/cancel IPPT/RT/IPT when we MR!!!

Thanks for the informative notes which clarify for our fellow Brothers who might still somewhat confused.

Regarding to the NSRA 3rd Milestone 3K, your final high key MUST BE on or after 29th August 2010 than you will be enititled the 3K into CPF. For my case, I had my final ICT somewhere in Nov 2009 so not eligible and I am 34 when I served my last ICT :(.

b4 they implement this CPF thingy, I already completed (3low + 2high ) 5th cycle by 2009, when they implemented in 2010, I already past the 2nd milestone (either 3 HK ICT or 5 ICT with 2 lowley), me that that is 3low + 3high....which is 6th cycle,

6th cycle = no $$$
So does 2nd milestone be backdated?
If not those become ex NS (Completed only 6HK ICT) eg unit stand down
Any rewards?

I probably only hit 7hk and 7 ns years by age 40. If I volunteer to continue for another 3 years, will I still be eligible for the 3k ?

The reason why its so confusing is that when u call & ask, diff ppl say diff things so u dont know who is right. U email MFU also no use cos they refer u back to your unit where again u dont know who is right.

In my case i called to enquire in june 2012. Was told by one clerk that i had clocked 7 high & 2 low so my ict in july 2012 would be my last ict. Found it weird cos i dont have any low key ict stated in my ns booklet. So after my july ict i called again & this other clerk said i had clocked 8 high keys.

I enquired about low & he said he didnt see any low key in my record. He then said not to worry as new mindef policy is do 7 high & can MR. He said i should get my MR letter in the new work year i.e. after april 2013.

I checked with my ns buddies (some MR already, some old bird like me) & quite a few said that becaus my unit got no low key, so even medicals & mob briefings are considered low key. Which makes sense as my ns booklet does have a half day mob briefing & a 1 day medical. That may explain why the first clerk said i had 2 low key. Probably the second clerk didnt know & was looking for the words "low key ict" which is why he said no record of it.

My understanding is that its up to your unit to classify whether something is low key or not. Without giving away too much info, my unit is an evergreen unit i.e. it never stands down. Every year u have NSFs who join as NSmen & u have NSmen who MR & leave.

Recently we had a change of equipment. That meant that the stuff which old birds knew how to operate were phased out. And of course we had no idea how to operate the new stuff. Training would be close to impossible as ICT is max 40 days per call up & there's not enuf time.

So our unit is unique in the sense half of us are new & know how to operate the new stuff, but the other half are oldies who dont know how to & there is no time to send us for training. Therefore there were rumours that they will try to "speed things up" and get rid off us old men asap since we cant operate the new stuff & are basically a waste of space.

All of this makes sense but how true nobody knows. All i know is my first ict was in 2002 so in terms of ns years, i definitely have more than 10 years. For high key confirm i have 8. Low key i dunno lah, depends whether they want to count my medical & mob briefing or not. But i have received the letter congratulating me on reaching the 3rd milestone & the CPF money has been credited.

But still no watch or MR letter. Since its only Feb i guess that is why. Hopefully when next work year starts in april 2013 i get the letter. And till then hope i dont get called up for ict or mob. I heard that as long as u never MR, u can still get called up even though u have 7 high key & waiting to MR.

One guy in my unit was short 1 ict & asked if can volunteer to extend but only for 1 ict. He was told he cant suka suka specify the duration. I suspect if u volunteer to extend there is a minimum period. If not everyone would extend just to get the CPF money.

Diff Forces, diff Squadron, diff Company, diff Units I guess = different scenarios.

I MRed with only 7HK + 1 LK spread from Nov 1998 to Nove 2010 (12 years).

Did u get CPF letter & money?

MRed does not automatically means u get the milestones money. It's "only" for the "younger generations". Not for the "elder generations" sadly :(
