The 710s i3 cost 1099, the i5 cost 1399. If u don't use too much stuff... The i3 would be fine.... I was looking at the dell 13... But I think it's eol...
Thanks Magickiller9 for your take. I think you have a point.
Do you have other similar range laptop as an alternative to consider ... just so I can make some comparison before I make a purchase ?
Thank you & cheers
I would recommend MacBook with Retina Display.
Hi there,
I also wanted to buy the Asus ZenBook and the RRP prices as as follows:
1) UX305UA-FC013T, Core i5 = $1,398
2) UX305UA-FC004T, m3-6Y30 = $1,098
But when I went to Courts, the salesman told me that Courts will stop carrying Asus laptop bcos their motherboard always got burned. He claimed that company like HP & Lenovo previously used Asus motherboard and because of this motherboard problem, both these companies have decided to stop using Asus motherboard.
He then persuaded me to buy Acer instead ...
Any experts here can shed some light into this ...
Now I don't know what laptop to my for my daughter. She doesn't do gaming, no video editing. Only using it to surf the internet, watch YouTube, use Word & Excel, sent emails.
So my requirement of the laptop that I think i will be purchasing is as follows:
1) light in weight - less than 1.3kg
2) min size - 13 inch
3) processor - i5
4) 8gb RAM
5) Budeget: preferably about $1,100 but can stretch to $1,400
I am thinking of Asus UX305UA-FC013T, Core i5 at $1,398 but since the salesman dais that, I kinda hesitated as I haven't dome much research into laptop.
Any idea which laptop is good with the above requirements ?
Thank you very much
Yupp MacBook with retina display is great. U cld get refurbished ones for cheaper price. Also can install windows on it, heard MacBooks are very lasting?

Thanks for letting me know but yeah why are they promoting Acer ? bcos of bigger commission ?what i can say is, dont believe everything the sales agent tell you. And i think i know why every sales agent is promoting Acer..
why she wanna return it if it's lightweight and long battery life ?why i choose the 305? cause of its lightweight and long battery life. Wife use it in her office, but return it. So gotto go along with her.
Ok then I stick to AsusWas actually considering the 710s but the battery cant outlast 305. This goes the same with Dell XPS 13
Yeah, can I ask about this. The Asus salesman said the Core m processor is no good and not popular and asked me to go for i5 ... is that true ?And why i choose the Core m? because its "uses" less energy compared to the another option - i5.
Ok will heed your advice ... thanksJust consider Fujitsu, Lenovo and Asus for your laptop purchase and you will be fine. Dell is great too, they are catching up after 2013(they go private).
why choose 710 because of size ? what you mean by "bcos of size" ? it is smaller ? I thought you said that the 305 is lightweight ?305 looks "tougher" then xps13 and 710s though imo.
But I will choose the latter because of its size, a slimer bezel. because i carry it around.
Ok I trust you, I will give Acer a miss ...the only reason if i were to get acer is the hdd size. S5 or something? 1399 i5 but 512 SSD. If you have notice, only high-end(exp) models comes with 512ssd..
Ok, so i now left with 305 vs 710At least you have shortlist to 3 of them for now,
UX305
710s
Acer (forget the model)
Thanksgood luck

Hi all experts,
Can I ask whether there is any difference to buy now or to buy during Universities Road Show ?
My daughter do not need a laptop now until she goes to Uni ...
so i was thinking, if there is not much price difference, if got sale then I just buy it and one chore down ...
so, is Universities road show really worth waiting or is it just gimmick with just some worthless freebies ?
Thanks
Hmmm .... he even brought me to the Asus area and said these are the highend ones and after these stocks are finished, they won't carry the brand anymore ... he even invited me to press on the Asus screen and asked me press and compare against the Acer screen. He said the Asus screen is so soft and low quality ... but I press press them, I cannot feel the difference leh ...Well, the highlighted statements by the sales person's a little far fetched - one that cracked me up alittle.- I highly doubt Courts will stop carrying Asus Notebooks.

ThanksWill keep a look out for you for models within your price and specifications list.
She will be doing accountancy businessWhat course would your daughter be going? if you don't mind me asking - as different course of studies requires different specifications.
OIC ... but can elaborate on the specs list ? Does that mean Universities road show they give you higher specs for the same price ?Good thing about university notebook fairs would be firstly the specs list & also the extended warranty that these laptops have - probably 3 years of on-site / carry in warranty - in comparison to the 1 / 2 years standard warranty for laptops bought from electronic retailers. Having added warranty gives peace of mind to some knowing that should anything happen during their course of studies (due to hardware failure that's non accidental) they are covered.

Lastly, I read some where in the Asus thread, someone said that the Asus 305 have "the infamous intel graphics crashing problem". Any idea if this is solved by Asus or is this still a problem ?
Thank you very much ...
You selling laptops ?The laptop at university fair is better. 3 years Onsite and some give international warranty like Smu. 4 hours turn over time. Or else loan set provided so u can continue with your assignment. And way way cheaper. The list of laptop for Uni will be out next week. Come again next week or pm me. I'll tell u what I'm picking for Uni lol! I'm entering this year as well. Waiting for the list.
The laptop outside is roughly the same price but you don't get onsite repair or loan set not to say 3 years/ international etc. you have to pay few hundred extra for that

All models (except Tablet and Value Line models) will come with minimum 3 years on-site warranty and 1 year international warranty.
Tablet and Value Line models comes with 1 year warranty.
For example the xps13 256Gb i7 retail for 2.3k outside with 1 year local warranty. The university fair selling it for 1.9k same model with 3 years international warranty with that kind of price you can only get a i5 128Gb outside.
Every Manfacturer will have some issue. But If there's any issue. 4 hours turn over. Why not right?. It really depend on your luck.
All displays will show some sort of distortion when pressed. Here's my advice, when you do make a purchase, do go to another sales person.
Lists for the various universities should be out soon... before school starts!![]()
Based on past few years, Specifications should be +/- same or better.
Quoting from NTU's Notebook Tender Lineup, the attractive feature is as follows:
Purchasing a notebook from a retailer and adding additional warranty options increases its purchasing price by a few hundred at least.
You can check out NTU's offerings (to have a feel for the specifications - do note it's about a year ago) for the last acad year over here - http://www3.ntu.edu.sg/cits2/computerdeals/NB_ShowAll_15.asp
