That's the problem with many local drivers, never check their rear mirrors.

Anyway, it's up to you whether you want to check your rear mirrors. The motorcyclist would not have been in the hospital had he check his rear mirror more carefully.

It's indeed a choice.
Actually if the rider saw the car coming behind at high speed, what can he do? Infront is traffic coming from the right, on his right there is a stationery bike and on the left there is a stationery car. He can either chong into the traffic or sway left or right to hit the bike or car. At his age its hard for him to jump out of the bike as well.

The only mistake he made was presuming the car will slow down when approaching a red light.

failure to keep a proper lookout's punishment is
"Anyone guilty of being a repeat traffic offender could be jailed for up to two years and fined up to S$5,000, or both.

If the offence is in connection with driving a vehicle, the offender could be disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for life or within a period that the court deems suitable."

vs Careless driving leading to death's punishment is

"Up to 3 years imprisonment and/or fine of up to $10,000"

WIth no minimum punishment, it could end up as a fine only.....And if the lawyer tokong enough, can argue the careless driving leading to death to failure to keep a proper lookout lol.....
If the driver had kept a proper lookout, technically the accident would not have happened.

Approaching a junction her foot should have been on brake pedal long ago. Blood is on, not only her hands but also the examiner who passed her driving.

If a driver needs to use a lot of the conscious mind to drive, and i know there are people like that, they aren't good drivers. A good driver should know how to internalise to the extent that driving becomes instinctive. This way there is less mental overload. The body is also doing the driving and checking subconsciously.

SINGAPORE – A 70-year-old motorcyclist has died after an accident involving a car at the junction of Bartley Road East and Airport Road on March 15.

In response to queries from The Straits Times on March 17, the police said the elderly motorcyclist died of injuries after being taken to Changi General Hospital, without elaborating on when he died.

A 30-year-old woman who was driving the car that collided with the motorcycle has been arrested for careless driving without due care and attention, causing hurt, said the police.

Videos posted on social media show the man riding his motorcycle from the middle lane onto the rightmost lane at a junction, with the traffic lights displaying red.

A white car rapidly approaches the motorcycle and collides with it. The impact sends the man flying onto the roof of the car and landing several metres away. His helmet is flung off his head.

Police investigations are ongoing.
