Just last few days 初2 I saw 1 of them at the Queen street at coffeeshop opp the temple order char siew rice... I scratched my head and in full monks robe no less

These are scammers or actors. Nothing more

Sad to say, many people were not able to/have the knowledge to distinguish the real monks from the fakes. Ended up they gave $$ to the fake monks, thinking that this is a right practice, while in fact, real monks go for their alms round for food only.

Some people, instead of calling out those outright fakes (who solicit for money), reported those legit monks on alms round instead. I think people here need to be educated more. Some times the way mainstream media reported such news (using pictures of real monks to illustrate fakes) also one kind one.

Today another report on people reported police on real monks (I think the monks were from Wat Palelai).

yes, these r real monks from Palelai Buddhist Temple, Bedok Walk.

currently, u don't see them at Bedok South Blk 216 Hawker Centre nor other Bedok Hawker Centres cuz Palelai Buddhist Temple is under major reno.

the temple main hall is under construction now, i think won't be ready until 2027 or something.

Clarification issued to Stomp on the image used for story “Men in monk's robes spotted asking for money on street, S'pore Buddhist Federation says it's wrong”​

January 8, 2025

A Stomp article was published on 8 Jan which used an image of Palelai monks on their daily alms-round, which could be misinterpreted that our monks are asking for money.

We have issued a written clarification to the website to help them understand the purpose of the Theravada Buddhist monks’ daily alms-round practice and what can/cannot be done by the monks during alms round. Please see our response and help share it with your family and friends for their information too.
