Dun need to worry about our enforcement team, seen plenty of times civilian officers with badge asking those tissues sellers and ppl who ask for donations licenses at bugis Guan Yin temple. Those legit peddlers or selling flowers will report if they see too many foreigners coming to snatch their income. Have seen at least 2-4 times at that area, SPF will come sweep them up after the civilian officers do their checks.

What you said is correct, we cannot generalize that if monk not attach with any monastery are not real . They could be prefer to be staying their own place but still practice and follow the rule as monk.

Dun need to differentiate between real or fake monks, foreigners without work permits or passes are not allowed to perform any rites or beg for alms , they can't even sell tissues. They are all on tourists pass

Not sure about those hired by the undertaker companies. Most of the practicing Buddhists invite monks whom we know who are true monks.

I dunno… some people in this thread seem to be defend monks who own luxury items as the watch is for time telling so the price is not important.

You see watch as a luxury item, it is expensive using dollar note to measure, its value is monetary defined, its main purpose is to tell time. An expensive watch to you can make you look atas, ppl see you as rich person, but can the same watch produce same result on a monk? Can the watch promote his status to be senior monk or great master? Answer is no. Does buddhists respect him more since he wearing a luxury watch? Again answer is no. So, luxury watch or cheap watch make no diff to a monk. If I can see its material value using buddhism dharma, a monk can do better than me.

I can wear a $50 watch or $5k watch to temple, nobody will care. Just like ppl drive ferrari or toyota to temple also nobody care. But when you bring your wallet to car showroom, then money will come into the pic, price for ferrari is not the same as toyota. A luxury item is atas in society, but meaningless in buddhism, we can't use it to gain enlightenment or wiser our knowledge.
