You can take the Hankyu Railway from Osaka (Umeda) to Kyoto. It brings you straight into Gion area.

Hankyu Limited exp train takes around 45mins from Umeda Hankyu station to Kawaramachi station (Gion area) in Kyoto. ¥400 per way. I recommend this option.. :o

What's the main thing you wish to explore in Tokyo? If you wish to travel to different areas for different stuff it might be just nice.

My last stay in Tokyo was 11 days, visited museums and shrines, but didn't get to visit Lesser Tokyo, so depending on what you're planning to do with the 8 days it might be just nice or insufficient.

For Osaka either umeda if you want to move around, to Kyoto/Nara, or Namba for food.

Tokyo depends on preference, I'm staying at Palace Japan again, cos of my preference of a quiet neighborhood (at Minami-senju). If you want to travel around aim for an interchange station like Ueno, or along Yamanote line.

Thanks for all the help so far guys! I've booked flight tics and all accom.
Chuo hotel at osaka and khaosan ninja at tokyo. Staying w a fren at kyoto.

1. Is there anything else I need to buy or do in advance in singapore? Busy exam period until 7 may :) Only got 7 to 11 may to plan and pack after.

2. Any train tickets to get? (Had a bad experience travelling non-direct train from Amsterdam to Paris, took like a day and 5 train changes)

3. Day trips to book?

4.Stuff that has to be reserved or it would be sold out by then? Like admission tickets etc Not going disney/USJ, but maybe osaka's aquarium. Is it worth it though?

5. is it worth getting sumo tickets from this website? since i'll be in tokyo during the may period where there are sumo competitions. http://www.buysumotickets.com/Contact_Us.html

Would love to get data but as a solo travellor the wifi pocket thing is kinda expensive.

12 Singapore - Osaka
13 Osaka
14 Osaka
15 Osaka - Kyoto
16 Kyoto
17 Kyoto
18 Kyoto
19 Kyoto - Tokyo
20 Tokyo
21 Tokyo
22 Tokyo
23 Tokyo
24 Tokyo
25 Tokyo - Singapore

Will prolly do a day trip to from osaka to kobe, (should i still do himeji? im not buying a railpass since i technically only need 1 shinkasen from kyoto to tokyo)
kyoto to nara and
tokyo to mt fuji

Any suggestions / things I can change to improve?

[as mentioned by eq2addict, u can get the JR Kansai area pass. if u buy here or via internet, it is 2200yen instead of 2300yen.
if u are getting data sim card, u may want to book it first and get it sent to ur hotel]

[for kyoto to tokyo, u can get the purrato kodama discount ticket for shinkansen]

[yes, osaka aquarium is worth a visit. much better than our sentosa one]

sounds good! thanks for the tip. can this jr pass be bought in jap or must i buy in sg like the other passes?

wat u planning to do in kobe? u can visit kobe after himeji and stay still dark to see the night view from mt rokko

thx for the info on osaka aquarium!

no plans at kobe atm other then makan beef, was gonna plan indepth after 7may. appreciated the info

purrato kodama discount ticket seems complicated to purchase, but if i sat a normal shinkansen from kyoto to tokyo would i need to make any reservations before hand? trains from hyperdia seem really frequent. could i just show up on 19 may (date of departure) and purchase on the spot at the train station?

qns to all: should i stay at another location for any of the days or? e.g. any 2d1n at hakone or any other place?

[can buy on the day itself since usually shinkansen not fully occupied. however, to play safe I usually book the day before or earlier.]

will be good to stay a night at hakone if u are going there.

Entrance fee for Himeji: http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3501.html
It's about 15-20 mins walk from Himeji station.

There is also a Hello Kitty cafe in Himeji, if you are interested can go there take a look.

For Kobe, you can take a look over here.

Nope, my first time in Japan too actually haha. I'll be staying at Juyoh Hotel (3100 yen per night for private room, so why not) for most nights, and First Cabin Tsukiji for one night (wanna see tuna auction the next morning)
