Yes lesson learnt. Will not ever purchase anything from Google store sg ever again.

Someone shared here that he managed to call StanChart and have it waived. I did the same and got mine waived too, though the CSO did say it's a one-off exception.

As Frank Abagnale mentioned in a Google Talk before, always use the banks' money when shopping online..

It's not like they can't setup payment processing in SG since they do have an office in SG... :s22:

Hahah now we know why they can afford to give their employees so much benefits like free lunch etc. Cause they leech alot more from customers.

The extra charges are not fully charged by the bank and none by Google. Google do not know what the charges are about. Its charged by VISA/Mastercard and depending on ur banks, a small percentage to the banks as well. This is quite common btw. Happens for Amazon purchases, Agoda and Expedia etc. FYI.

Factually, the extra charges by levied by Visa & MasterCard, and pass on by the banks. Google doesn't earn extra in this sense. The only fault they have is not to setup a Singapore payment center but this happens to other companies too. Fortunately there is a solution which is to use AMEX card for payment (as AMEX doesn't seem to charge the banks yet).

There are AMEX cards with same income requirements as Visa/MC: https://www.singsaver.com.sg/credit-card/best-deals/results

That being said, spend within your means and not live on credits.

Actually Agoda uses SG payment center, so can take note for future. Sorry I digress...

Actually there's something positive about having the payment being processed overseas if you play the credit card "miles game". You get the overseas miles rate instead of the local rate. I can only imagine the chunk of miles you get should you charge to the dbs women's card :)

Have u tried calling Citibank for help?

It's standard fee that is also charged for other purchases, so I don't see the need to make a fuss over it. BTW, like the other post mentioned I also get additional miles too. Just take it as a lesson.
