My son wants to go to a Guards unit. So am I want him to enter to a combat unit. He will be the 3rd Gen in my family to enter Army after myself (NSF/NSmen combat vocation) and my dad who was regular (combat/trainer) from 1959.

My son enlistment is Aug intake.

I read Jan intake is Guards. If he miss getting into next Guards intake, any combat unit in a combat vocation will do.

Any idea for Aug 2019 intake?

Just a heads up. You want your son to enter a combat unit is one thing, but in the end its always up to SAF where they want to put him. As long as he does well etc he should be fine but anything can happen when it comes to vocation

It depends, if your son is enlisting to tekong it means he will most likely end up in the leadership batch or Mono for infantry. The leadership batch may get posted to Leadership course or those Engineer vocations and combat unit as a trooper after their bmt while the Mono intake is a direct entry to the combat unit.

What’s “leadership course”?

Why if go leadership batch mean engineer vocations and combat unit as trooper only?

Leadership course means SCS or OCS. Those who did not manage to get in to either school will end up at engineering, service or combat vocations as a men. Your son may get posted to be a technician, storeman and clerk, driver, infantry, guards, armour, arti and many more depend on various factors such as; physical fitness, performance in BMT and education background.

If your son is in the Mono intake, it means his fate is sealed, serving in that unit as a men unless he do well and get send for the SCS course.

Anyway can i know when is your son enlisting? Because i am enlisting in 15 August 2019.
you mean if in leadership batch, and end up not going leadership course, wouldn't go combat unit to become infantry?
