Hello Tech Gurus!

I'm looking to build a computer with a $3,000 Budget.

Main purposes for this computer:

• 3D Video Rendering
• Video animation & rendering
• Heavy graphic editing
• Mid - High Res Gaming

Looking to set up with:

• 2 screens with Mac screens color calibration.
• No Ethernet, so wifi is needed.
• Power ventilation?
• Currently have an Crucial M4 SSD 256GB I'm planning to use

Could anyone advice to me about the build I should look into?
A breakdown of the costs would be extra! :D

Thanks guys!

Thanks RoyFrosty for the suggestion!

What's this Tradepac place everyone is recommending? :)

Am not sure about the speed, but its fibre optics hooked up to a D-Link DIR-865L Wireless AC 1750 Dual Band Cloud Router.

Tradepac is a shop at lvl 5 of SLS, ran by ah nehs. If you know how to bargain (without picking a fight), they can give good discounts. But, that place is not that good for newbies. If u wan a safer option, den try PC themes at lvl 4. Wun give so much discounts but will give u better customer service.

Is purely your choice on which shop you wanna patronize. I just quote and recommend you on which parts you should be getting for your needs.

Where you wanna patronize is on your own.

Tradepac is a place if you wanna bargain your way through and care less about customer service.

If you want you can choose pcthemes. Lesser discounts but you will get a reputable service standards.

if the **** don't give in u must prepare to walk away
sometime they will wave u to come back
sometime they don't
depends on the crowd and their mood
also depends on how many items u buying
if 1 hdd don't expect to cut $10
if u spent hundreds to thousands on rig then different
they will call u boss

Best is to go on weekdays whereby there isnt much ppl, easier for them to entertain you and for yourself to bargain with them.

Wah liddat hoseh liao.
Ji tao walk in tell him I want all these parts, he scrub my feet already.

But jokes aside, thanks for all the info!
I'd love different opinions from people on the build as well if possible!

And Royfrosty, do you kindly mind to explain the rationale for the parts chosen? :D

And about Tradepac, how would I know how much can I push it for discounts?
And like where is the line I should not cross?

First is the slightly smaller form of PC. And hence i recommended the corsair obsidian 350D with a slightly smaller mobo with upgradability space in the chassis in the near future.

As for the ram, I figure out that you will need that amount of rams when it comes to running all the programs you need.

The storage I select is 3tb x2 reason because of the project files and all the photos + videos that you gonna work with. Those things don't come small in size. Not unless every month you do house keeping just to keep some space on your HDD. Lastly the cost ratio for 3tb is better than you buy a 4tb HDD.

For GPU I have recommended a nvidia counterpart over amd. Not because it is hot, bad pricing etc. But more of the cuda technologies that might come in handy for your needs.

As for OS decision it is entirely your choice. Cause at that price range if you are intending to use windows 7 home premium your max ram capacity supported is only 16gb. Only windows 8.1 allows up to 128gb. If you die die want win 7 then you got to spend more on windows 7 pro. Iirc its $40 more.

Thanks! I didn't really understand the rationale behind the Nvidia and the Casing but thanks for clarifying!

Are there any more expensive : worth it, investments out there? For graphic card wise, should I get 2 graphic cards as I'm planning to use it with two monitors!

Also any ISP monitors to recommend?

Casing wise it is entirely up to your likings.

Go down take a look at the physical size of it. There are some shops in SLS that display on shelves. Such as PC themes, Tradepac, fuwell, best price, bizgram.

The obsidian 350D is slightly smaller chassis than the regular mid tower chassis. Chassis are classified under a few sizes.

1. Mini itx size
2. Itx size with full size GPU and full size PSU compartment.
3. mATX size
4. Mid tower
5. Full tower
6. Super tower (proclaimed by corsair terms such as the obsidian 900D)

Since the mobo is a mATX form, you can choose to have a mATX chassis all the way to a bigger size chassis.

Obsidian 350D can only fit a mATX mobo, but this chassis is "unique" as it has many fan mountings, longer GPU support, various mounting size for 120mm to 140mm fan mounts, removable HDD cage etc. For it size it is kinda good.

No you won't need 2 GPU to run 2 monitors. Not unless you are gaming intensively and going for high res gaming then you will need 2 cards. But do take note . For 2 cards to run together you will need a z87 and z97 to run on either crossfire or sli in x8/x8 config. A b85 h87/h97 and lower tier z87/z97 will only support crossfire only at x8/x4 config and won't support sli for nvidia counterparts.

Cuda and OpenCL is used in certain parts of your rendering programs. Some programs benefits from either Cuda or OpenCL technology. Read up more on your programs you used.
