$4k budget, full on gaming PC

Hi all,

Just want to have a sense of what kind of PC i am able to get now with budget of $4k

Needs:

-Windows 10
-i7 (not overclcking)
-GTX 1080
-Aio water cooling (no experience with water cooling, has to be newbie friendly to maintain)
-34 inch curved ultra wide gaming monitor

-able to run games like Witcher 3, Rise of Tomb Raider, Batman AK etc at above 60 fps, max settings

Do not need:

-Kb/m
-speaker
-headphones
-no color preference

If by gaming monitor you mean one with G-sync then that itself will be about $1.5-2k+ depending if you go for the Acer X34 or the ASUS PG348Q. So you will need to compromise on your wishlist to get close to the budget..

If you are getting it for ultra high end gaming purposes:

Something along this line:

Intel I7 6700K
MSI Z170 gaming carbon - $781
Zotac AMP GTX 1080 SLI - $1958 + 60 (Gigabyte HB Bridge)
Gskill Ripjaw 2400MHz 2x16GB - $239
Samsung 850 EVO M.2 512GB - $249
Toshiba 2TB HDD - $97
Corsair RMi 850W GOLD - $235
Enthoo Pro M Acrylic - $149
Silverstone TD-01 lite - $105
Window 10 Home 64bits - $149


Total: $4022

If want 850 EVO 1TB top up another $279. Dont bother with 950 Pro as 960 series is coming out soon and also 4K daily workload has no improvement at all (you will not feel 950 pro is faster than 850 evo for day-day task, including gaming or game loading time)


Price as listed from PCT price list, definitely can go lower with bargain or go to Tradepac to get better price.

Since you dont mentioned OC, you can try to skim on Motherboard to go on H170, however given your budget I still recommend a 6700K due to higher stock clock. (highest among skylake cpu). The last thing you want is to get CPU-bottlenecked by 2 beastly 1080s. At 3440 x 1440p, the chances are low but you know, at that budget, you wont want to risk a slight chance.

Another alternative is instead of 1080 SLI, you can order a Titan X Pascal which should be less than 2K (Carousell is selling 1.9-2.2K) if u ship in yourself. Your budget is sufficient

Any idea which is better? 2 1080's or 1 titan X pascal?

yes its enough for 2x1080.

1 titan x pascal is better.

as for SLI and CF is always the same ****. SLI and CF doesn't make u have 2 x the performance at all.

dont sli. and no need aio wc also. noctua d14/15 still quite a beast of a cooler and thats quite overkill already since no oc. 4k more than enough for everything including monitor.

And use a z170? For that price I rather go 1070 sli with x99 platform. And titan X sli??? You know how much is one titan X or not?

You don't even need SLI 1080 if using ultrawide. Battlefield 1 ultra settings on 3440 x 1440 is giving me about 80-90 FPS (with occasional drops to high 70+ in heavy action). It's already getting very close to the monitor's refresh rate of 100Hz. Unless you want your FPS to be locked to the monitor's 100Hz all the time, under all circumstances, then maybe get the Titan XP. But definitely skip the SLI, not worth it compared to high powered single GPU applications

I think if you talk about a single 1080, you can squeeze in a decent setup with ultra wide monitor for under 5K. Mine was built for about that much. Skip the unnecessary items like Z170 motherboards and AIO coolers. Just stick to H170 without overclocks and use a good air cooler (these things don't affect game frame rates) and you should have no problem
