$500 @1440p possible??

2600 actually is good choice, plus a used $100 gtx970 . Should be within 500

I m using 3600 I didn't find it any big diff vs my old 4690

3600 6c 12t vs 4690 4c 4t no big difference? Then I will just get a used 6th 7th gen i5 to make my upgrade easier liao..

I didnt play wow at all , not sure is really cpu intense , his budget also kinda tight . Hard to say

Is it more worthwhile to buy preowned 7700 or 7700k at around $250 or buy brand new latest gen of cpu and mb? In a similar situation as ts as well on my second pc.

4C/8T for $250 used, no need to consider at all when you can get a new Ryzen 3600 for a bit more.

But buying 3600 needs new mobo and someone here said his 3600 hardly makes a difference to his old 4690.

it makes no diff cos his card is a 1080p tier card. with that level of gpu perf, cpu is hardly the bottleneck, so if u run cards like the rx580, 1060 or 1650super u wont notice a difference from 2600 to 3600. only for cards aiming 1440p and above then can start to worry about cpu bottleneck.

We considered all already , is the budget doesnt allow go until new cpu n motherboard + ddr4 ram . 3600 definaly better than 4690 if u willing buy all new , but i did feel wasnt that big improvement

Just sell off the existing MB and top up the difference. No point spending more money on old tech when there is something much better for a bit more.

As for the i5-4690K, depends on usage. My last CPU was i5-4690K/i7-4790K/i7-4770K/i5-4570K. (Yeah, I had a bunch of those. Still holding on to two Haswell MBs and two CPUs. )
No noticeable difference when I upgraded to 3700X except when doing encoding with Handbrake since most of the time, it is just for Youtube and HWZ.
