$5000 Gaming desktop recomendation

Have a budget of about 5K, not including monitor.

As usual, break your budget into $3K + $2K and do a mid term upgrade with that $2K. Spending $3K does not mean not getting flagship grade/performance parts. Spending $5K in one shot does not mean getting way faster performance than spending the $3K. Your $2K to be spent in its mid term upgrade will reap you higher performance than the fastest parts you can afford now with that $5K.

My current mobo is fried and not usable anymore. Nothing to upgrade and wont be bringing any parts over.

Get parts with performance, not parts for the sake of it, makes ur spending more worth it

Check the availability of items in Bangkok

A basic matx z370 motherboard
8700k (or a 8400) << Google up on overclocking, some z370 boards especially by Asus have the auto overclocking enabled..
Cpu cooler can just get a cryorig h7 (FOR THE TIME BEING)
Ram sticks 2x8gb 2666mhz minimum, 3200 is price is right
EVGA/galax 1080ti
PSU seasonic prime 650W/ 750W (if u want it to be redundant)
SSD, size that suits u
HDD, size that suits u
Fractal design meshify C

If u want even smaller form factor, live with a 8400 is better, temps wise healthier. Go for a z370i board, case get FD node 202, PSU I used a seasonic sfx Gold PSU 650W last time, u can consider it if u want, other great options out there too. Slap 2 additional 120mm fans at the GPU intake slot.

The rest, after 6 months when come back SG, upgrade again. If u get 8400, can up to 8700k, get a better cpu cooler depending on how much you Wan to overclock. 16gb ram can up to 32. That’s about all u can consider. Excess money, slap another 1080ti, add in a NVMe Ssd (make sure ur mobo supports this but then most mobo by 8th gen should anw)

If u get itx case, room for upgrade will be limited, GPU definitely stuck to 1, cpu 8700k also can’t overclock a lot due to limitation of cpu cooler, most itx mobo have only 2 dim slots, so got to sell ur 2x8gb kit and upgrade, 2.5” Ssd or hdd slots only have 2, so got to check on your m.2 slots..

Uh anything else left out?

I never ask you to reuse any parts. I am saying you should not spend so much on a single new rig since rate of diminishing returns is very high up there. Spend $3K now and then use $2k to upgrade in 3 years time. You will gain far more than what you can get right now.

Plus, since you are going thailand. royfrosty is your best guide to PC parts there.

When we are here complaining about the local hardware pricing, you all should see what kind of pricing the local people have to pay there instead. Its madness, more and more of the local stores there starts to close shop, imagine Pantip far worse than sls.

What is left there are mostly major retailers. Even big retail like Banana IT starts to close 1 by 1. Even custom watercooling shops shrunk and went on with online stores instead or some shifted to Palladium mall instead.

Any way, buying a gaming pc does not mean that you need to pay top dollars. Even if you have sky limit budget, buying the most expensive components may not give you high performance in gaming. So balance out your own parts.

Pc is not about paying more = last longer. So save the money and slowly upgrade when there is a need to.

Save up that money, spend it in Bangkok.

But no need to get an 8400 then 8700K. You can always go direct 8700K, enable all c states and speedshift, underclock it by capping maximum performance state in OS.

You can maintain laptop CPU like power consumption to fit a HTPC cooler. Drop it to probably 75% max performance state for example most probably won't hit 1V on the core.

But also got to see when stock for 8400/8700k coming in, 8th gen like similar scarcity as rx series gone OOS when mining craze started..

I still queuing to get the 8700k, but no rush cause waiting for Maximus extreme to be out Next plan is to get inwin choppin and wait for ryzen apu to reach stores in Sg
