5820k is indeed cheaper. And yet able to oc a lot more.

Mine ---->

4.5ghz with 1.256v. Hitting around 70degC with my custom water cooling with 2 fury X. Now with single 1080, i think if the temps are lower i can set 4.6ghz with 1.27v.

6700K with a reasonable price Z170 mobo is still cheaper than the cheapest 5820K/6800K.

S$7XX vs S$9XX/1K+.

TBH BW-E still can be clocked to 4.2-4.4 GHz range, if you are lucky, 4.5 is even possible.

There is no reason to discount that.

dunno it makes a difference or not if I upgrade to x99 platform cause I'm running i7 3820 on 4.4 Ghz (On Air) on my gaming rig. Its MSI x79 beginner board.

That is if you are lucky. Different story from 5820k.

Out of the box it is easy to 4.5ghz. Unlike 6800k. Some even cant get 4.2ghz with nice voltages.

I read from overseas forum

BW-E 4.3 to 4.4 GHz = HW-E 4.5 to 4.6 GHz
because of better IPC performance.

MC of BW-E > HW-E
so o/c DDR4 above 3000MHz easier.

True or not?! :s11:

Nah not really that true.

---->
Default 2666mhz. I oced till 3200mhz effortlessly.

But i retain my cpu ratio bclk to 101.25 iirc. To 4.51ghz.

Which is running fine for quite a long time.

TS i vote for 5820K if around same price. More cores > more IPC in long term :)
O/c a 5820K to 4.5GHz is a 'free' 25% boost.
O/c a 6700K to 4.5GHz is 'only' 7% 'free' boost.
Budget X99 boards have more features than budget Z170 boards.

Yes it is true. BW-E o/c DDR4 is easier but o/c CPU is not as high as HW-E.

but BW-E needs to run much higher voltage to reach equivalent performance yea? (and higher temp)

now thinking of 5820K vs 6800K due to small price difference, but leaning towards 5820K due to to OC potential

OC forums 200+ pages, read until shag.

5820K vs 6800K. For me, i will get the 6800K. Higher stock speed, newer chip. :s13:

5820K user here. The sight of seeing all 12 threads 100% maxed out during export/rendering very shiok. If only gaming, then 6700K bah.

I owned a 5820k, now a 6850k.

Frankly speaking, 5820k more than enough for usage. The next "logical" upgrade should be 6850k or 6900k, coz the 6800k is essentially a 5820k with 14nm process node and lower OC potential due to new node. For HEDT processors, the 6800k should be the correct pricing when compared to the 6700k. It was just that the 5820k's lower-than-expected pricing made it a value-for-money chip, and hence the 6700k vs 5820k debate.

If only gaming, a 6600k should do more than enough. In fact, I would consider a 6700k an overkill for gaming since most current games don't even make use of the 4 extra threads to boost performance. Needless to say, the 6800k and 5820k are intended for more than just gaming.
