X6 is more of a media streamer. it searches the china websites for video files or torrents and downloads them locally into a SD card and playback from there, usually in rmvb. They claim that they uses P4P technology which download faster than conventional P2P. Resolution will be depending on files ripped and encoded.

When a movie is selected, it starts to torrent and download, playback from cache in the SD card. Remote control is very sturdy with a mix of rubber buttons and plastic (for directional cos most of the time u will be using this) but the directional buttons got lag issues.

It supports usb plug in for some external file format with max res up to 1080p. normal res is at 720p if using HDMI. sound decoding didn't try cos dun have file to try.

BB speed it takes around 30s-60s to cache a file for playback depending on file and site. Fibre usually takes around 30s. I've tested these via cables but not on wireless...

dunno about zen12

wifi of 54Mbps is crap...if u dun have wired, dun try. it is using qvod engine. u can try it on pc or just do a search for qvod on google.

warning...this is copyrighted multimedia file sharing and is not deem as legal...that is why the files and software player are stored differently in china sites...

5th Element mediaplayer

I manage to loan a set from friends and find that this is performing well. No time to do a proper review yet but i will try to write a full review soon. Difference is that this media player seems to have a large onboard buffer than normal, hence the lagging of many online streaming is resolved.

bro buffer is determined by the SD card u plug into the back. If you stream more than 2GB (default card included) worth in a single session, you might need to power down and reboot if the previous session cache are not cleared properly.

So whats yr point? Is this buffer an improved feature or not compared to the other media players that don't have this SD card to act as buffer?

improve feature is depending on how u see it. this SD card act as onboard memory. the other media players have their onboard memory.

u try straight away hard power off the set from its back switch, take out the memory card, read in the pc, you can extract the video files and playback. its where the cache is store and playback from...

if the SD card is full, you wont be able to load a new show.

I wonder if there is any difference in firmware from sets bought locally and those from ebay/taobao?

The price difference is alot.
Shipping time is not an issue.

Anyone to comment?

i'm facing plenty of issues as well

the movie would load temporarily and after watching for a few minutes, the system will start to buffer

i initially though that it might be due to network problem, but it seems to be otherwise

any advise?

Is this any better than HiMedia HD600/900? Can't get the streaming to work, keep buffering and jerking.
