I need 5 seater, with boot, so the 7 seater is out, the last row confirm perpetually always down, forget it... medium SUV like CX-60 can le, but like you say, I see the price... I rather top up a bit go merc or audi SUV.I wanted a Mazda with 7 seaters but AD is greedy n treating consumer k@m l@n. I rather k@m l@n for BBA.
Surprisingly CX 80 the "mark up" is only 29% comparing to CX 60, 49%... guess they know the reason why CX60 is not selling wellI need 5 seater, with boot, so the 7 seater is out, the last row confirm perpetually always down, forget it... medium SUV like CX-60 can le, but like you say, I see the price... I've seen a few already, almost went for it, but I found the price too steep because similar 5 seaters like audi and merc is already same price. Hard to push myself to it.Surprisingly CX 80 the "mark up" is only 29% comparing to CX 60, 49%... guess they know the reason why CX60 is not selling wellBTW, I have seen a CX60 on the road.

Went to see M6, don't like the shape, very typical 7 seater, but small, smaller than wish? Similar to Sienta I think.
The Sealion7 however is more luxurious, but the boot...
Would like to hear some opinions from the forum here. Which brand new 7 seater SUV is the most bang for buck? Not comparing the absolute price, but what you get the most out of what you pay. These are all around 200k to 250k based on Dec 2024 prices
- Hyundai Santa Fe
- Kia Sorento
- Nissan X-trail
- Mercedes Benz GLB
- Skoda Kodiaq
- Peugeot 5008
I booked a CX80 which is launching soon, very posh interior and quite a nice drive without feeling too boaty in handling.
Can still sit in back row at 1.76m together with preggy wife just to test out the space.
The 3.3L very unlikely will bring in, the CX-60 has the 3.3L option also but was not brought in, they only brought in the 2.5 IIRC.Congrats! I was at the private launch for CX-80 and everything about the CX-80 checked all my boxes except the engine. I don't like the PHEV engine and I was looking forward to the 3.3 turbo petrol but unfortunately, TEK is not bringing it in.
Otherwise, I would have signed right on the spot like I did with CX-8 when it first launched in Oct 2020.
Exactly. It turns me off so much that I'm willing to consider 5 seater. I posted in EDMW about this and pasting this here. The 3.3L very unlikely will bring in, the CX-60 has the 3.3L option also but was not brought in, they only brought in the 2.5 IIRC.
There should be a CX-60 mHybrid version also.
However, for the prices of the CX-80, it turns me off that it's so nearly priced with GLC 300 and Q5. However, the CX-80 is not in my pipeline, at max the CX-60 but the price again... turn off.
7 seater SUV is always a problem, because the 3rd row usually eats up boot space and ends up perpetually down for those who don't need it. In fact, I think 2 cars might even cut it better than 1x 7 seater. Thankfully I'm not pickled between 5 and 7 seater SUV. I just need regular SUV for my parents. CX-8 was not in my books because of the rear seats/boot space, it would perpetually be down and 7 seater is like luring people to come, take a ride with me, so... erm. Hahahaha.Exactly. It turns me off so much that I'm willing to consider 5 seater. I posted in EDMW about this and pasting this here.
I'm currently driving a 6 seater CX-8 that's 4+ years old and looking to change to another 6 or 7 seater SUV but there's really not many options in the market. I have viewed and shortlisted a few SUVs (including some 5 seater SUV) and will like to hear any thoughts on them.
This car is to fetch my family of 4 (2 adults and 2 primary school children) daily and I will bring my parents out for dinner on every weekend. Hence, ideally 6 seater is the best but I can consider 7 seater (don't really like bench seats on 2nd row) and 5 seater SUV (squeeze a bit). My budget is $300k+ and I can stretch to low $400k. I drive to Malaysia often (long trips to Penang, Ipoh, Kuantan etc, and at high speeds) and I like some spirited drive from time to time. My 2.5NA CX-8 while is a great drive, power is lacking. It's very stable at high speeds (180-200km/hr) but yeah, acceleration can be better.
Requirements:
1. Spacious.
2. Comfortable seat and passenger comfort.
3. Somewhat fun and engaging drive. Yes, I know fun drive and SUV don't really go hand in hand but I'll take whatever there is.
4. Stable at high speeds (above 150km/hr).
5. Reliable - less visits to workshops other than normal servicings and I don't want to keep replacing spoilt parts within first 5 years.
6. Priced between $300k+ to low $400k.
7. No MPVs!
1. CX-80 - This was originally my choice car as I wanted to get the 3.3 litres turbo petrol in-line 6, 6 or 7 seater. TEK decided to only bring in 2.5 PHEV and I don't like PHEV. Everything else about the car was great, comfort was the 2nd only to Lexus RX. Specs were top of the line and inclusive of everything which even GLC 300 Coupe and RX didn't have. CX-80 has a lot of soft-touch material and the infotainment is very user-friendly. Mazda has really improved a lot and built quality is really good now.
2. Skoda Kodiaq RS - Not launched yet but I want to test drive it. I previously shortlisted Kodiaq when I got my CX-8 but did not go with Kodiaq because I needed a bigger car and more space in the 3rd row. I'm not very familiar with Skoda so I'm not sure about reliability of Kodiaq.
3. Mercedes Benz GLB - Back in 2020 when GLB was first launched, I withdrew my cheque that I used to express interest because the 3rd row was cramp and there was no aircon vents in 2nd row back then. Everything was very plastic and I did not like the 1.33 litre turbo engine. However, I liked the interior (1st row only) and the MBUX. But hey, GLB200 at $170k was a great opportunity to own a Mercedes, and being a 7 seater made it even better.
4. Santa Fe - The current generation looks futuristic and has pretty good specs. However, there's a lot of hard plastics and the seats aren't exactly comfortable.
5. Lexus RX - This 5 seater came up as a close contender as I used to drive a RX270 several years ago and it was very very comfortable. The current Lexus RX is the most comfortable SUV among all the SUVs in my post here. It is adequately spec-ed but I'm not too keen on the hybrid engine and the e-CVT gearbox. I like Lexus for its comfort, reliability, design and attention to details. The infotainment is bad, worst among all SUVs here, and it doesn't even come with premium audio (Mark Levinson) anymore.
6. Mercedes Benz GLC 300 Coupe - This is more of a selfish choice. I really like the design of the car and the interior wows me. This is also the most powerful among all the SUVs here (0-100 in 6.2 secs). But the seat is hard and not comfortable. Interior space is the smallest and can't really fit 3 adults in 2nd row. Specs wise, it's the poorest spec-ed as it doesn't even have HUD and sunroof at $400k+. Quoting Business Times, if I wish to have a last flirt with petrol, the GLC 300 Coupe is a great choice.
7. Not considering BMW and Audi due to other reasons.

For your CX-8, do a ECU Stage 1, it should be way better than it is now actually for spirited driving. I can attest to the stability given it's size at high speeds like you said. However, for it's size the 2.5 was more for moving it off fast. Pity they didn't bring in the 2.5T, that would be a happy point for you I'm sure. Like the 2.5T CX-9.
CX-60 and 80 is priced too ridiculously right now in lieu that Contis are in the same price range. My SE still often probes if I'd like to upgrade to CX-60 but the price point is really turning me off. I like the size and RWD but price...
Able to stretch the price is one thing, I think ultimately finding one that you like still takes the priority. The options you listen, I think CX-?? is still a better choice among the listed. Lexus RX looks small to me and doens't look too stable at high speeds but I never test drove it, so I might have shortchanged my options.
Luxury wise for 5 seaters SUV, I'm looking at GLC300/350, Q4 eTron, Q5, X3, Sealion M7 however, since there are so many options I'm tied and unwilling to change. Even the CX-5 is at $220K now, which is... mind boggling, 120K for COE, less ARF etc... the car is what... 35K?
Painful decisions... I think you'll have a long deliberation as well to decide a replacement.
Sadly, but truly, Mazda's interior and design still by far is the closest to BMW and conti, handling wise, is fantastic, just that the engine is under...

Kaos! Your comments on the GLC300 strikes a chord with me too! I have friends telling me to reconsider GLC300 based on the sentiments you just shared!Oh wow, you just spoke my mind!
Yes, I always think that the 2.5T CX-8 (available in Malaysia, Japan and Australia etc) is the perfect ride for me. My SE told me that $290k+ can close the deal for CX-80 and I did a check on the cost of CX-80 and it's $264k. This means their margin is about $30k (11% margin).
The CX-80 has everything I need except that I don't like PHEV. I was quite close to getting the GLC 300 Coupe but I'm waiting for C&C to drop price. I haven't test drive the GLC Coupe but feedback from my friends was that it's not a comfortable ride.
Yes, you are right. Mazda has improved a lot with their interior, design and material and a lot of consumers still don't know about this until they drive a Mazda.
What car are you driving now?

Q5 - simply I like the brand logo, honestly, I'm a sucker.
Q4 - I love the electronic side mirrors which LTA banned... dumb.
X-3 - I like the menacing outlook of the SUV as well as it's boot space but I know inside is pretty bare unlike Q5 and GLC300.
GLC300/350 - I like the shape of the car the interior lighting and the use of the full LCD panels it integrates nicely with carplay so I am a bit tempted.
I'm a sucker for aesthetics that's why my limited options. Going back to CX is a good choice but the price... sigh. The 2.5T boosts 400 over bhp but the road tax will be a killer I believe, that's why TEK killed off CX-9 and replaced with CX-8 2.5 NA.
For PHEV, still too early to tell, I'm still siding ICE cars and likely I want to make a change before the EV crap ruling comes on in. $290K for the CX-80 is too high, you're paying simply for the launch of the model plus some exclusivity thrown in by TEK which is nothing compared to driving a continental of the same price.
It will really take a very good reason and convincing from my SE to make me jump to CX-80 and she knows I won't. I only prefer 5 seater as I need space for wheelchair every time I go out with parents, so a CX-5/CX-60 is more fesaible for me.
Currently I'm driving the smaller brother of your CX-8, the CX-5, I've seen the CX-8 parked next to me, and it's really bigger but I don't need the last row of seats. I like the outlook and 2.5 but I still feel it's underpowered, even for mine which is stage1 ECU tuned, I find it is still lacking though it's much improved over stock conditions. For me, 165km/h and it's still very stable actually, a bit surprised, yet to do a hard cornering because no guts to.
I can change back to CX-5 FL but still 2.0. I've added a module for wireless carplay so that covers it. Kick tailgate is a good to have, not a must, so all-in-all, I don't have a push factor to change back to CX-5 and it's about $220K on paper now. My Aug 2021 CX-5 is reselling for $120K on SG Carmart, if I have to change at that price, I might as well go Q5.
Even the Sealion 7 is pretty awesome for its price point - $209K, down side is the road tax, $2257? For a 5 seater SUV it's pretty sexy and sleek. Just that BYD... I don't know, I'm still apprehensive owning an EV though my brother-in-law has 2 EVs but he stays condo, so charging is not an issue, and his office has charging points as well.
I stay HDB so EV charging will become a problem over time when more and more EV owners get on the bandwagon.
The M6 is unfortunately a MPV more than SUV, kinda... well, I'm never a MPV person, so... strike out!
They told me the handling is not something to die for. I am an a**hole when it comes to driving, right now 2.0L I'm already a road hazard, if I go higher then handling needs to match as well. So definitely need considering. So the GLC is really not comfortable ah? You are looking at GLC SUV or GLC Coupe?
I think the CX-60 is a very nice car but the engine that TEK brought in is boring 2.5NA.
Yes indeed, step a bit and the car goes easily to 160-180. I did 220 on a straight empty stretch at NSH and it was still very stable but only for a short while because the trees were passing so fast.
Will you consider the Lexus RX?
I was trying to outrun another ah which refused to filter to lane 2 despite all other lanes empty, I let loose and let him catch up then I sprinted away.
practicability wise, I'm happy with another CX for another 10 years.
